Complex Adaptive Systems
I. To begin this assessment, I studied what a complex adaptive system entails. A complex adaptive system is a system in which a perfect understanding of the individual parts does not automatically convey a perfect understanding of the whole system’s behavior. To me, this relates to what a society consists of. Everyone is living among each other, but there is no right way to fit a society together. Nothing is cookie cutter, but somethings still can end up working together.
Taking a step back, I defined the individual words of Complex, Adaptive, and System.
Complex - consisting of many different and connected parts
Adaptive- to adjust to a particular situation
System- a set of things working together as parts of a mechanism or an
interconnecting network.
II. Word Pool
Complex- complicated, convoluted, composite, compound, multiplex, multiple
Adaptive- flexible, modifying, robust
Systems- arrangement, organization, scheme, structure
III. Sentences
1. The convoluted conversation over robust wine stirred up some innovative
thoughts.
2. After looking at the structure of the composite under the microscope, the class determined what it was.
3. The wedding arrangement was complicated because I kept having to modify the tables so everyone would have a good time.
4. There was a pattern of multiple rhyme schemes which enhanced the songs.
5. The movie multiplex had flexible showtimes to accommodate different people.
6. The scientific organization studied compound molecules in order to understand their findings.
IV. As I reflect on my felt experience of this assignment, I couldn’t help but to reflect on the entire semester's work. I can say that I can take two things in a space and society and juxtapose their meanings and relations. I realize that I have the ability to work in groups, meet deadlines, and speak up when things aren’t going correctly. However, I am overwhelmed. I’m not sure where there is a platform where I can share my ideas and my thoughts as I have so openly this semester. I have been making virtual connections and branching out into a new headspace. Things are far less black and white than ever, but prove there is much more complexity and hues of grey in between. I’ve been challenged to think this semester, and now I challenge myself to not forget. To continue to make connections through time and society. I’m in a space right now that I am positive about this, and I am grateful to have challenged my thinking in a separate direction.

I am excited to be able to piece together words and create new meaning within this space. We all worked towards the same goal of completion, which inspired some creative thinking.

Mary thought about Abbey’s work: True
Abby’s thought about her work: Organized
Abby’s thought about Nicole’s work: Concise
Abby’s thought about Mary’s work: Interesting
XI. Felt Experience
I think this exercise really showed that it is important to come together and study different concepts. For this particular exercise, we studied the complex adaptive systems, which was fitting because that is exactly what we were doing as a group; coming together with different skills to contribute to one big concept. This caused us to be creative in innovative while still being true to ourselves.
