Fishbowl 10 + 1 Steps:
Clare Sandford & Dom Scata & Max Smith
Sentence: Sameness and difference are a matter of context and point of view, change and continuity often two sides of the same coin.
Word Pool:
Context: The circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea to which it can be fully understood
Continuity: The consistent existence or operation of something over a period of time
Sameness: The quality of being the same; identity or similarity
Difference: A point or way in which people or things are not the same.
Matter: Be of importance; have significance.
Importance: The state or fact of being of great significance or value
Reworking:
Clare: The concept of being the same or different from something or someone is dependent on the situation and the subject matter.
Dom: The context of every situation can be the difference of how you see the story from each point of view.
Max: Similarity and difference are purely based on the setting they reside in and how we view them. The same way, whether it’s a change or conservations depends on who experiences it.
Felt Experience:
Clare: As a fraternal twin, there are times where I feel like I am acting just like my sister, personality wise. However, we can also have totally different opinions on a subject or a way of reacting to a situation.
Dom: When telling a story to a friend, sometimes they can’t see both sides of the story because they don’t have enough context to have a valid position on the situation.
Max: When I spoke to my uncle over Thanksgiving break, we had a conversation about the plan to put a wind turbine up near his house. To me, this was a huge step forwards and was happy to hear it. He had a converse opinion as he was worried about the adverse effects that he would now suffer. This simple action imposed on two different people brought up two entirely different reactions. To me, I was ecstatic as the action lined up with my ideals, while my uncle was more cautious as the action had a more direct effect on him.

Max: Everyone’s temperament and point-of-view determines how they view an alteration to their world as well as their reaction to it.
Felt Experience:
Clare: In times of stress, it is interesting to me to see how people react to being overwhelmed. In terms of school work, I personally tend to work harder as an assignment gets closer to its deadline. Dom: One of my bad traits is procrastination and I have worked on trying to be better at it and it is improving.
Max: When my brother and I last talked, we spoke about how some people in his school had never experienced heavy snow before. Final Thoughts:
Clare: As this is one of the final structures we are putting together as a group, it is interesting to see how we can move through it more seamlessly. For this particular one, the main ideas we worked through were about the similarities and differences between people and how that impacts the way they see things and react in different situations. Everyone has grown up in different ways and that has shaped the way they see the world and what they have experienced in life.
Dom: We are all more similar than different when it comes down to the route of us being human. We all are different in our own ways, but also similar in the same sense.
Max: When looking at an alteration in our lives, we tend to only see it in a light where we are the only people affected. To someone in a different position, an action that moves inline with our motives could be a drastic and unwelcome change for someone else. By looking beyond our own view, we are able to better understand just what effect an action could enact on the world.
