REFLECTIONS ON LETTERS

It is easy to drown in the wave of information washing over us from each of our devices. This is why we must pay attention and be mindful of what we consume, and how much we consume. A mindful approach to consumption is crucial to staying afloat.

With each letter and reflection I become increasingly aware of the importance of word choice. Each of us writes with an individual nuance which reveals our thoughts and understanding. I have been thinking about the last letter and realized that it is also crucial to be mindful of our word choice.

I am intrigued by the possibility of our work being published. Additionally, acceptance by an international conference could open many doors for us. Let’s pursue this opportunity.

“A global society of many traditions and value systems can be a school of life”--Professor Dugal
“A global society” stood out to me in your letter. Society is changing at such a rapid pace. It is no longer face to face interactions but through online sources. It has made society into a more accessible thing by communicating with others from all over the world. It is a network, often a good one, but also has many faults.

It is exciting to see our work in the Fishbowl come to life in new ways. The abstract provided me with a fresh perspective of our purpose in the Fishbowl. I am eager to see how far we get!

By pursuing the conference, we are contributing to and creating value in the knowledge economy. It is great that we are taking an active role, instead of a passive role. I look forward to creating more value in the Fishbowl, and hopefully at the conference.

“Our story’s word-images show how the storyteller thinks people usually act and how they should act, what actions are right or wrong, what actions will lead to success and to failure, and what things to strive for.” – Professor Dugal

This line in the letter stuck out to me. I think it is a great synopsis of what we studied and accomplished in the social meeting exercise. The way we choose our words and construct our sentences, paragraphs and stories reveals much about our thoughts and values.

This letter revealed an important truth: creativity involves risk. We take risks each time we post in the Fishbowl, but this is how we create value. The embrace of our differences leads to creativity and creates value which is what we’re really striving for.

This line from the letter resonated with me: “process and product became entwined.” Professor Dugal mentioned the same idea last class. As we work on the papers we are becoming familiar with and learning a new process and a new way of thinking. We are creating a paper and a process; both are products.

Our group structure (the three of us) is one society, the class structure (section 1 / section 2) is another and the entire Fishbowl structure (BUS 345 and BUS 443) is a third. As we zoom out we see an increasingly detailed representation of our larger society. It takes all of us, working together and creating value to create this.

The Fishbowl is taking us on a journey. We are looking at ourselves, looking at ourselves; we are looking at each other; and we are learning about ourselves, each other, and us as a group.

This line sums up the experience of the Fishbowl:

“You rarely end-up where you were intending to go, but often you end-up somewhere that you needed to be.”

As we reflect, we create an understanding and a knowing that we cannot anticipate.

The concept of inter-subjective spaces is interesting, and I had not thought about the social meeting exercise in this way. The three of us interpreted the social meeting differently, as did anyone who has since read our reflections. It is interesting to think that our experience and the summary of our experience are both inter-subjective.
