Through this course, I was able to learn about the four characteristics of globalization. Globalization is the process by which businesses or other organizations develop international influence or start operating on an international scale. The four global phenomena are integrated networking structures, complex adaptive systems, dynamic decision making, and unique innovative capabilities.
The first characteristic of globalization I learned about was integrated networking structures. I struggled with this assignment the most as it was the first one of this type. I didn’t quite understand why we had to repeat the same steps over again. I was trying to figure out how integrated networking structures fit into my experiences as whole, rather than each word individually. By doing this with our groups, I believe that I was able to get more out of the assignment than I would have alone. I was able to see how my group members worked on the assignment with their different perspectives.
The second characteristic of globalization I learned about was complex adaptive systems. After doing the first assignment, this one came a little easier. I found the felt experiences to be easier to write about with the words I chose. I was able to learn how the class and the fishbowl consist of many different and connected parts. Through this, I am able to reflect what I have learned into my own life. I feel as though I left this class more able to adapt and conform to different obstacles I may cross.
The third characteristic of globalization I learned about was dynamic decision making. By doing these assignments, I was able to learn how different words can become interrelated. It did take me some time to complete these assignments, but I was thinking deeply about each subject and how I have experience them in my life. I did find that using the words in my own experiences helped me to understand their meanings better. I did find myself overthinking what I was writing at times, so I just had to take a step back from it and dive back in at a later time.
The fourth characteristic of globalization I learned about was unique innovative capabilities. I thought that viewing other people’s posts, especially of those in my group, helped me to see how others viewed the subjects either similarly or differently. I found it interesting to see how we would start with three words and what that would later turn into further down the process. I also found that I learned more about my thought process through the re-structuring and writing my experiences.
I learned that I couldn’t stress over these assignments or they wouldn’t get done. I had to make myself sit down and do them and let the words flow out of me. Once I started it would just make sense to me. I found myself connecting words and using them together that I wouldn’t have pictured writing in the same sentence. I also would have never expected writing about the felt experiences I had; some I hadn’t even thought of in years.
I believe that by doing the first one of these assignments on integrated networking structures I was able to fully understand what the format and structure of this course was really all about. I was able to give my work its own value. I chose words that I normally would never have in the past. Through this, I think that I can chose different words to use and bring them into my life. The biggest thing I will take away is how my chosen words can give meaning to the words I put out.
