By allowing ourselves to be out of phase with our own selves we are able to develop ourselves and further advance our ante-narrative.

ANTE-NARRATIVE- process by which retrospective narrative linked to living story
PRE-INDIVIDUAL- individual's being is continually out of phase with itself
SEE- perceive with the eyes

Learning is an Act of Courage

Post by darlinggarcia » 28 Nov 2019, 00:38

Through these exercises, I have come to realize I have courage. A society is forming through the fishbowl, and sharing to the fishbowl is how I have come to find my own courage. The foundation is formed through ourselves uniting by associating.

"Reassembling the Social"
Bruno Latour => world famous & widely published French sociologist
Fundamental challenge to how we understand society & the "social"
Latour shows why "the social" can't be thought as material or a domain

Actor Network Theory
"Theoretical & methodological approach to social theory where everything in social & natural worlds exists in constantly shifting networks of relationships"

After googling Reassembling the Social & Actor Network Theory, it makes you debate what really is the society. The social cannot be a domain, but everything within the social is a network on relations. It would be interesting to read the whole book and other works by Bruno as maybe it will be provide more guidance.

Forgetting can sometimes be our own choice, we select our own constructed information that we are not satisfied with to forget. However, sometimes we can choose to keep that dissatisfied information, in order to improve upon it.

Thoughts are quite important in one's personality. It tells a lot about the individual, as we often will think what we do before we do, and if we do before we think, we will often reflect and then choose how to react to our original action.

Re: Response to Letters: life after the fishbowl

Post by darlinggarcia » 28 Nov 2019, 14:57

If I was to have read this email at the very beginning of this semester, and seen that question, "is there a life after the fishbowl," I would have automatically said of course there is. However, after these months, I have come to see the fishbowl is where we are allowed to share our thoughts. So yes, there is life after the fishbowl, but the fishbowl has become part of our life. It pushes us on our pursuit and in search of theory.

The social exercise comes to mind especially upon reading the statement, "Our best chance of understanding design, culture and society, and ourselves, is to open our minds to plurality of imperfect depictions that together allow us to manage and interpret our world," more exactly the part where you say to open our minds. In a way, I was able to practice this through allowing myself to open myself to my group members. It helps build connections.

Zygmunt Bauman
Polish sociologist
Characteristics are about the individual

The internet has greatly impacted us and led to us becoming a society of consumers. Often times brands reach out to these influencers to promote their products. However, if that influencer or brand itself had a past discovered of insensitivity, it can destroy that influencer or brand, calling it unreliable. Our own personalities impact what we are trying to sell.

In a way, I think we have become like emails, filtering junk and spam and opening only what is of importance to us. I believe those of our generation are quite in touch with the five literacies. However, sometimes we do entertain of ignoring crap detection.

I think the main difference between depict and reveal is that depict is describing one in a common seen way, while revealing is only letting the ones your trust see who you really are. While with action and performance is that action is your true moves, while performance is planned moves.

With apperception, we prove that we are conscious of our own consciousness. It's great to see how unlimited we truly are in our minds and even in the fishbowl.
