Letter 43: Simultaneous reading and writing
“In this way, the whole of life can be seen as a living “real time” process of simultaneous reading and writing, producing evolving and diverse patterns of meaning.”-- Professor Dugal. This “real time” process is not only stimulating but exciting. I want to produce evolving and diverse patterns of meaning. This is a big but wonderful task.

Letter 44: Reflecting mid-way
“Your selection of symbols, and your abstractions, aphorisms, fragments and felt-experiences, communicated in a digital environment are virtual products which have use-value. “--Professor Dugal. This value we create through our felt experiences has allowed me to build something new. These symbols I now recognize and this new way I look at the digital world is fascinating.

Letter 45: Reflecting a New Society
Complex Adaptive Systems
I am excited to get started on “Complex Adaptive Systems”. I hope through our groups work in gaining an understanding for Integrated Networking Structures, Complex Adaptive Systems, Dynamic Decision-making and Unique Innovative Capabilities I am able to create a new ‘way of seeing’ and being in the world (the business world).

Letter 46:Forming theory with anecdotal evidence
As I read you letter, this stood out to me, “not to talk theory (but to develop it)”-- Professor dugal. We need to use theories to further ideas and thoughts. To explore beyond and take ideas and words further! Here is where new knowledge and understanding can be created

Letter 4: “Restructuring text”

Post by mosmanski » 04 Nov 2019, 16:27

Individual reflection is the key to learning. We reflect when we review our class notes, when we define the vocabulary, and when we both consider and respond to the letters. Each of these acts involves restructuring text as we identify key words and phrases, consider their meaning, and reply with our thoughts and emotions.

Letter 5: “Sharing what we see when we read”

Post by mosmanski » 04 Nov 2019, 17:09

In the Fishbowl we share our thoughts and emotions in our responses to the letters. Our reactions are instinctual, but the ability to put these thoughts and emotions into words is the skill we are honing. We put ourselves on stage by posting in the Fishbowl, and learn from others by observing their performance relative to our own.

Letter 6: “Question”

Post by mosmanski » 04 Nov 2019, 17:19

If one of us has a question, it is likely that others do too, so it can be helpful to present correspondence between a student and a professor.

However, this can be a violation of trust and privacy, so this should only be done with the consent of the student.

Letter 7: “Simulating a society”

Post by mosmanski » 04 Nov 2019, 17:35

The Fishbowl is what we make of it.

It can be a place where each of us drudgingly post our responses to the letters, or it can be a digital environment for the study of society. In order to create value for ourselves and one another, we must view the Fishbowl as a simulation of society and learn about one another and society from our posts.

Letter 8: “Reading the other’s posting”

Post by mosmanski » 04 Nov 2019, 17:52

Social media has reduced our attention spans. Scrolling gives us a rush of dopamine and tricks us into thinking that something better and more exciting is just around the corner. This thought process bleeds into everything we do, and we must resist it in the Fishbowl.

We must avoid rushing through and instead meditate on the thoughts of our peers. This is how we create value for ourselves in the Fishbowl. There is always something of value to study in the Fishbowl if we take a moment to look for it.

Letter 9: “New forms of intimacy and friendship”

Post by mosmanski » 04 Nov 2019, 19:41

The way we form friendships is undergoing radical transformation due to globalization. According to Giddens, it appears that the relationships we choose to engage in now are more genuine because they are not forced by tradition. The freedom to choose often leads to choices made from genuine interest.

The social meeting exercise is a study of friendship in the age of globalization. The goal of the exercise is to establish friendship and rapport in order to make our working relationship as partners smoother and more enjoyable. It is much easier to meet and collaborate if you are comfortable with and enjoy the presence of your partners.

Letter 10: “Theory of Assemblages”

Post by mosmanski » 04 Nov 2019, 23:18

This letter has been the most thought-provoking thus far. The TedTalks were fascinating and I am genuinely glad I watched them.

The TedTalks discuss what globalization means for the future of political borders. According to world maps, the globe is an assemblage of countries divided by political borders. This division leads to conflict over access to infrastructure. If we invest in infrastructure that connects us and is accessible to all, then conflict over political borders can be greatly reduced, if not eradicated. We must focus on economic ties over territorial tensions, and trade political geography for functional geography.

“If we focus on the lines that cross borders – the infrastructure lines – then we will end up with the world we want – a borderless one.”

“The global connectivity revolution in all of its forms – transportation, energy and communications – has enabled such a quantum leap in the mobility of people, of goods, of resources, of knowledge – such that we can no longer think of geography as distinct from it.”

Letter 11: “Reassembling the Social”

Post by mosmanski » 04 Nov 2019, 23:55

We must be ourselves in the Fishbowl if we want to create value. To be ourselves requires us not to hold back; it requires us not to fear how we may be judged or how we might compare to others. We must be ourselves and express ourselves genuinely.

Letter 12: “Meeting once again”

Post by mosmanski » 05 Nov 2019, 12:43

It is often a challenge to do something for the first time – meeting new people, writing abstractions – but we grow by pushing through feelings of discomfort. This is part of the human condition.

Letter 13: “Soft power”

Post by mosmanski » 05 Nov 2019, 13:03

Soft power is more important than hard power today. In business we must find ways to communicate effectively and appeal to those we wish to collaborate with. We must find ways to sell ideas by focusing on the ideals of others.
