Strictly Ballroom

In Strictly Ballroom the main character Scott Hasting was supposed to be the best ballroom dancer. He had been dancing his whole life and thought that he was better than just about anyone. When he gets a "knock" of reality starts dancing with a novice he thinks that he was "above" her. In the beginning he does not think that Fran belongs on the same dance floor as him. Then once the too begin to dance there is a connection between the two characters. The connection is both physical and emotional. I have had a similar experience to this when I first came to college. I thought that I knew everything and that there was no professor or person at this University that was going to change my mind. After my freshman year I met so many people that changed my thinking as the world that i once knew. This is very similar to how Scott Hasting had his entire mindset changed after meeting Fran.

The second example that I can relate to in Strictly Ballroom, is that if you focus on things that are not important you will get no where in life. Scott Hasting could only focus on ballroom dancing. That was his entire life. His mother and father wanted him to be the best ball room dancer and so did he, but in life you need to look at the larger picture. Yes it is great to have a passion for something, but one must realize that there is a lot more to this world than just one activity. I feel that many of us can relate to this because we all have certain aspects of our lives that we are obsessed with whether it be big or small. We let these activities consume our lives and we lose track of the bigger picture. Scott Hasting had Fran come into his life to open his eyes that there is much more to life than just dance. We all need someone like this in our lives or could even be the person that goes around helping people come to this realization
