REFLECTIONS ON LETTERS

Post by christineciccone » 17 Sep 2019, 21:32

Making Space
"Emotions are evoked by Text and Images. Always has been."
Emotions are triggered because of words people say and images that we process. We all have different emotions and responses to words and images that may be the same. That's what makes texts and images so powerful.
For example, when reading a book there are certain sentences that will relate to someone's past and this person will have a negative or postive view of this text. Whereas someone else who has had a different past views this text completely differently than you.

SHARING WHAT WE SEE: RESPONSE

Post by christineciccone » 17 Sep 2019, 21:40

"In this circumstance, connecting across differences is the way forward into the future"
We all view words and situations in a different way depending on how we feel that day or stuff that has happened to us in the past. by using our words to discuss why we do the things we do and how we react we see different perspectives. None of us react the same to a situation. By explaining these differences to others is how we grow and gain a new perspective. We can only learn by sharing our differences and keep growing.

RE-STRUCTURING: RESPONSE

Post by christineciccone » 18 Sep 2019, 13:58

“We each have a "pre-individual" that affects our PERCEPTION of the world in the present moment.” Pre-individual to me means we are someone by nature. The way we are wired and our genes are what out pre-individual is. This is what affects our perception at first glance and what we view situations as. However, we grow out of this pre-individual the more we learn the more we grow and the more we experience.

“Most things that people do shouldn't be remembered. Maybe forgetting is good” I think this quote means that you should constantly be learning and thinking so much you forget what you used to think. You should keep growing as an individual where what you used to think is no longer even a memory. I think this quote is a lot about growth.

Further reflection on your social meeting paper

Post by christineciccone » 15 Oct 2019, 19:40

“The other way around---to have thought informed from or by your action” Forming thought based on action and experience rather than forming thought based on someone else's initial reaction and being taught through this. Having more original and first-hand action forming your thoughts creates for a wider opportunity of thought and innovation.

idealizations

“Life is a constant adjustment between the models we make and the realities we encounter.” As you go through life your perspective shapes how you live your life. Perspective constantly shifts based on the realities you encounter in life. We form thoughts and opinions through real-life encounters and this is constantly adjusting based on our experiences. Therefore adjusting the models we think.

society of consumers

Post by christineciccone » 15 Oct 2019, 20:09

“the society of producers is transformed into a society of consumers” we now produce is based on consumers' needs and wants. It is not now about producing what we believe or want but instead producing what others want.

living mindfully in cyberculture

Post by christineciccone » 15 Oct 2019, 20:20

“The mindful use of digital media doesn’t happen automatically. Thinking about what you are doing and why you are doing it, instead of going through the motions, is fundamental to the definition of mindful, whether you are deciding to follow someone on Twitter, shutting the lid of your laptop in class, looking up from your BlackBerry in a meeting, or consciously deciding which links not to click”
After reading this I've realized I rarely think about why I am doing something. Instead, I just do it without thinking about why. The more I think about why I am doing something the more I will learn about who I am, What I want, and why I do the things that I do that happen so subconsciously. Especially living in a cyber culture today, why do I look at my phone? Why do I check Instagram? Thinking about these things is important to understand how society is affecting us.

Thinking Process

Post by christineciccone » 15 Oct 2019, 20:28

what is the difference between ‘depict’ and ‘reveal’? Action and performance?
Depict is portraying something or representing something whereas reveal is showing something that is unknown to others. A surprise to all.
Action is a process of doing usually, usually to achieve a specific goal whereas performance is presenting something possibly through action, task, or function.

looking at what we're looking at

“Through self-reflexivity and social reflexivity, you are generating big-data”

I think data in this context means generating information about yourself through self-reflection in social reflection. This kind of information about yourself is hard to find when not looking for it and being self-aware. Therefore its big data that can lead to growth within yourself. Self-reflection and social reflection help to understand yourself and then compare yourself and what you think to toher perspectives in the fishbowl.

reader response theory

Post by christineciccone » 28 Oct 2019, 20:35

Reader-response criticism is a school of literary theory that focuses on the reader (or “audience”) and their experience of a literary work, in contrast to other schools and theories that focus attention primarily on the author or the content and form of the work.
The definition I gave to reader response was similar to this meaning. However, my definition focused more on the importance of this. Everyone interrupts every text and every image differently. Therefore it is good to see other perspectives of readings and what they thought to understand other perspectives. It's interesting to view and author's response to their own reading and see how it differs from yours, and what they intended for you to feel.

the nature of metaphor

Post by christineciccone » 28 Oct 2019, 20:40

Your selected word is a metaphor. It is a concept. It is a symbol. This word has an image and evokes a feeling. A feeling is a response, a reaction to a word.
This class has given me a different view of what a metaphor is. As a young student when learning metaphors it was a strict definition and you would come up with examples. However, what metaphor is, is now more simple to me. It's anything that you can interpret as your own. Every word is a symbol for something else because every word and every text means something different to each person who comes across it.
