Before I dive in, I want to say thank you to anyone who has read my posts, as this helps proves a society has formed. We have not been scared to read one another’s and form a thought around each other’s opinion. This shows strength and peace within our own society. I say this, as during the first few weeks of classes, I felt awkward about reading other’s posts as I did not want to create a stigma that I could not produce my own thought into actual words. Rather, this showed that I was trying to break this close-minded barrier of mine.
The anecdotal theory cuts through oppositions to develop theory with a sense of humor, theorizing which honors the strange detail of lived experience. Under the anecdotal theory, we are to reflect on the stories that theory seems to ignore. In other words, we are to create our own version of theory through the eyes of our narrative. On the fishbowl, I had begun to draft my own narrative, which I am still doing, even with this paper. I am sure that everyone will have a different narrative/story to display. This helps creates a deeper value as everyone and me are sharing our words. In this one society, 45 different societies have formed and grown strong. Rather than ignoring the main society, we are building upon it through collaboration. We have managed to fit 45 smaller societies into 1 large society.
I would like to reflect on the 10+1 Steps assignment on Integrated Network Structures. My group and I formed the joint structure (step 8) as follow, “To defeat our former foolish selves, we must be open to grasping new journeys and experiences.” My teammates (Eric and Michael) and I all agreed that it childish to be ignorant to experience and self-improvement, as this is what creates foolishness. When we are foolish, we fall to our own demise, rather than acquire intelligence. By letting ourselves feel new experiences and learn, we are able to differentiate between the good and the bad. With BUS 345, we applied that; I learned that the bad in this society is not failing or obtaining a low grade, rather being ignorant. Ignorance is awful as it prevents us from learning the truth, framing our own text, and it leads to destruction in our society. All it takes is one rotten apple to spoil the brunch.
The Integrated Network Structure was only the first of its kind in aiding us to develop a voice. We were able to deconstruct the phrase and it apply it to our own experiences, and then draw connections between our team members. We discovered where we differed and our common ground. It’s not the comparing that matters though, rather the fact that we were working together to develop a voice. All four of the 10+1 Steps impacted us. We were not just writing, we were flowing, building together, forming together, and developing a new way to manifest our thoughts and emotions. It is important to note, that although each of the 10+1 Steps impacted us, they each impacted us in a different light.
For example, with Complex Adaptive Systems, I learned how in uncomfortable situations, my mind will force itself to adapt to complicated situations. We can find ourselves embroiled in many situations, such as friendships, school, and the fishbowl. For example, when I first started out in this class, I found the fishbowl to be different. I felt stuck as I had never experienced a class like this. This class was quite abstract, where I was a straight minded person. However, with the daily emails, it started to become like second nature. With much practice, I became adapted and entangled.
“With molding our choices, we must remind ourselves to be zestful in taking risk.” This was my outcome, when I restructured in Step 3 of “Dynamic Decision Making.” The current risk I took was the fishbowl. I was not sure if I could collide with the fishbowl. I was debating if it was even worth it. This was when I realized why. I was scared of being left behind or being the one who is not able a functioning member of this society. This was my risk, but I decided it was worth a shot. It would bring myself into a new experience; the chance at helping in molding a society. I needed to take advantage of the possibility that my life was depicting. I needed to push past that fear of mine to grasp the success of being a member of a new society. So, I did.
“Unique Innovative Capabilities.” That is a mouthful, but it is the meaning behind it that matters. In my eyes, it means that in order to be different, we must be ready to accept unconventional experiences. I could speak about experiences in my personal life as I had in the 10+1 steps assignments, however here I have been relating them to the fishbowl. I would like to keep that going. The fishbowl is quite new to all of us. It is still not being accepted. For example, in “Action Learning,” neither the COB nor the University were ready to approve the $500 needed for registration and conference. Instead, as Sanjiv said, they were going back and forth trying to shift the responsibility off to the other. I mention this because it is a prime example of when people are not open to new experiences. The fishbowl is a strategy that needs to transfer outside of the classroom as well as remain in the classroom. It helps us see things in a different light.
I would also like to take this time to reflect on some of my most enjoyed reflections. Rather than just copy and paste these reflections, I am choosing to rewrite them and then adding reflecting on my own reflections.
Voguing:
In the video that I had watched, I learned that it is a dance in which your body moves to the music in such a way that you are continuously striking catwalk model poses. I also learned that when voguing was still underground, the Latin and African American LGBTQ+ community often viewed this as their form of expression. I believe this is still quite active with many minorities in the LGBTQ+ community. The reason for this belief is that although times have changed, sometimes cultures do not. This is the only way for some people to feel truly beautiful and free, thus allowing them to feel happy.
On the business side, this is also applicable. Voguing is an art of freedom and creativity. Often times, you will see on TV, or in real life, that workers hate their jobs. I think it is because they have not opened up their own mind and realized that they can be free. This is what BUS 345 has shown me. Within the fishbowl, we have learned to flow according to our own beat.
We let our emotions to provoke our minds and actions. As this is creating a rhythm that is so ever influential. We prove it by being able to decode words and create our own interpretations.
Science of Networks:
Technology has allowed us to expand how much we contribute to the science of networks. We are now allowed to communicate and reflect online, without actually having to face one another.
I believe that not everyone views this as a great thing. This may be due to fear. However, it is important to be willing to take a risk every once in a while. As that is what influences our society. We are able to come closer together and show our differences. These differences create diversity, which allows us to overcome boredom. We are able to promote connectivity and creativity. The science of networks is then added to without even realizing it.
Lost in Words:
Slower reading is much more beneficial. At the end of the day, it is how we are successfully interpreting words. If we read at fast paces, we will not be able to grasp the concept of a society. Fast reading only results in rereading or even being left behind. You cannot be a true functioning member of this society, if you decide just to skim through words to avoid having to work hard. Slow is more.
Life after the Fishbowl:
“Is there life after the fishbowl?” Yes, there is. However, our lives have become wrapped around the fishbowl. So, I do not believe the fishbowl is being abandoned. Rather, it is become part of ourselves. With aid of the fishbowl, we can now push ourselves relentlessly in the pursuit of our theories, where our stories will become a major part of them.
Sharing what we see when we see:
I think this email is an important one to include here. Sanjiv’s words did not always mean what you thought they did. Sanjiv was able to use the internet in a different light. He molded the internet around him to build upon our hub and deliver his syntaxes to us. His syntaxes forced many of us to pause and truly think.
I mention Sanjiv because he showed us that every detail and every word, we transferred into the fishbowl was important and relevant. This was what we needed to become a true society. We were able to break out of routine and evoke our emotions into text. This enabled us to reflect meaning and create value. We also encouraged diversity and looked for design. We collaborated, leaving behind a digital footprint.
We developed a voice, where we allowed all our thoughts to come to light. This has helped us build our individual stories. We promoted self-worth.
The fishbowl is quite new, but so is the 10+1 assignments. We were able to master them. This was an accomplishment.
I also want to take the time to say thank you. Thank you to those that were so opened on the fishbowl. This helped me in realizing it was okay to have different thoughts. It was okay if my deconstruction was not the same as another’s. It was the differences that make us so powerful. I also wanted to say thank you to those who read my fishbowl posts. I know they may have been different from your thoughts or even a mouthful. I think it fuels an energy to write more and participate more within the fishbowl.
