“I’m looking at you, looking at me, looking at you.”
How do you see the world? What is the image in your mind?
Things flowing like water
Images feelings experience and words
We learn one word at a time
How to structure our words
We share images that our words evoke
Created a reality in which I had no choice

Class Notes 9/17
Maximizing return for your money
It’s like a gymnasium when you enter the fishbowl
Exercising you mind, looking at yourself in the mirror
Trying to form a society in whatever job you get
Connectivity is big
- Because of technology
- Connecting with each other, the class
- Start with emails and group
- Read every text of my group number
- Connection happens in my head
- Through symbols (words)
We lead symbolic lives
We lead textual lives
Nothing exists outside words
To add value to the group
- Carefully selecting words
- Restructuring creates value
You’re creating knowledge
Knowledge is being created for yourself
Creating your own reality
Creating your own sociality
Sustaining each other’s life by selecting words and adding value to the interaction
The interaction is always in the head
Distraction means I’m not slowing down, not focusing and not selecting my words
Entering here to create value with 2 other people
Our differences lie in our mental structures
Determined by the differences in words we selected
Social meeting exercise
1. Pre individual
2. Write out notes before meeting
3. Ethnographic notes
4. Meeting is open ended, social
5. Don’t talk about the class, talk about yourself
6. Then write out what happened
7. Write paragraphs describing the social meeting
8. Abstract sentence
Creating history as possibility
Paolo Ferrera

Interacting within a context
Integrated networking structure
Fishbowl Steps
1. Always enter the unknown with a structure
2. Gathering words, write down the words, integrated, network, structure etc. Gather as many words as possible
3. Restructuring. Rewrite sentence with substitutes. Simplify them. Look up the meaning of the word relational. This is an abstraction. 3 words in relation to each other.
4. Now in the first person (“I”). Describing an incident. Explain it from memory. It will take thinking, interpreting, and visualizing. Grounded in reality because you want to create knowledge.
5. Starting Interaction with group members. Read their work and give 1 word. Also give myself one word. Should be 9 words.
6. Also done interactively. Take 2 out of the 9 words and form a dichotomy. They should be very unrelated, opposites.
7. Make a word pool for the 2 words
8. Out of the word pool, make a structure, create it jointly. Make a structure separately and then edit them. Inflection point. Contingent on the dichotomy you created.
9. Felt experience individual
10. Perceptual categories
11. Insight and realization

Must catch up to move on
It’s not about numbers
Learning to learn
Shift your attention in this course
Learning to create a better society
Sharing your knowing and creating knowledge
Though self-reflection: what goes through your mind when you read something
Doing this through 5 methods
Social constructivism
Participant observation
Symbolic interaction
Action research
Auto-ethnography
Putting yourself in the center of the world you’re creating
You’re part of a network
Looking at diversity differently
You have to empower your text- creating value through words
Enhancing each other
The journey is inwards
Learning to self-organize yourself
1. Integrated networking structure pity statement
2. Forming a word pool
3. Read each other’s and give 9 words
4. Juxtapose 2 out of the 9 words
Write sentence, break it down and change it
Short felt experience
About memory and interpretation

Deep thinking occurs when you answer the question How So?
it takes time, doesn't come automatically
Felt experience has to go right down to the moment
come up with the real deep thinking
it takes effort, doesn't come easily
building meaningful knowledge content
engagement and expression, thats our contribution
in groups of 3 we've constructed knowledge on 3 topics
we've expressed ourselves in the public domain by engaging
to construct meaning and give it expression is to become successful knowledge workers
