Self-reflection- meditation or serious thought about one's character, actions, and motives
As I look back on my childhood, I self-reflect on the fact that I was too shy and not enough eager to try new things.
Participative observation- a research technique in anthropology and sociology characterized by the effort of an investigator to gain entrance into and social acceptance by a foreign culture or alien group so as better to attain a comprehensive understanding of the internal structure of the society
This past week, I was involved in a participative observation with group members in my Business in Society class to
better understand my peers and who I am to be involved with this semester.
Symbolic interaction- a micro-level theory that focuses on the relationships among individuals within a society
In order to succeed this semester in Business in Society, I was encouraged to have a symbolic interaction with my
group members.
Auto-ethnography- an approach to research and writing that seeks to describe and systematically analyze personal experience in order to understand cultural experience
I experienced an auto-ethnography understanding that because I was so involved in school as a child, I am currently
continuing to study at a university.
Dichotomous thinking- "All or Nothing" thinking refers to the tendency to evaluate one's personal qualities in extreme, black-or-white categories
With my studies, I continue to have dichotomous thinking because I either put 100% of work into an assignment or
just won't want to do it at all.
Structures and structuring- construct or arrange according to a plan
My days are structured around school so I can achieve the goal of getting a degree.
Interpretation- the action of explaining the meaning of something
My interpretation of the environment we live in is that it is a dark, scary place.
