creating "a living text" - not dead space
a. key part of design
immerse yourself in text - think about the word
whichever word - off on your own, select with care

ethnographic notes- relating to the scientific description of peoples and cultures with their customs, habits, and mutual differences
as much detail as possible
select six words/symbols from notes
pairing 6 words into three pairs, not associated with each other (very different words, opposition)
going into dictionary, two words together
create simple sentence- will be doing it all semester

We go after nuance to determine our differences
why do we want to determine our differences
- that's how we create value
first person action research- an approach to research undertaken by researchers as an inquiry into their own actions, giving conscious attention to their intentions
You are learning to abstract, stay rooted in reality (our abstractions are models)
TEXTUAL TURN: increasing focus on logic and philosophy of language and the cleavage between ideal language philosophy and ordinary language philosophy
Increase your cultural value/shock
- Print out stuff in the fishbowl and show how you think and read and write
BOUNTIFULNESS: marked by or producing abundance; giving generously
Experience is dependent on your social experience- social relations
Whatever you've thought write about your feelings
6 words you are circling- the words are symbols
1 sentence for each paragraph- dichotomy- 3 dichotomy- 6 symbols
Notes are always private
Put down the words that you associate with the image- 3 words
Machine
Creates a mental space (metaphor)
The metaphor determines the behavior
Sometimes will stop the film to say what he has to say

Changing the way you think
- Requires you to ID how you thin
- And then show evidence to show how you changed the way you think
At the same time having an awareness of how you are doing it
Substitute the word, substituting it to make it very simple
Process of selection
Nuances – define
The learning takes place upon reflection, occurs afterword
There has to be a realization
Lifting up through selection of words
Deep-Learning
Resumes- technique: deep-learning, your process

- When you google you pull a lot of info- what do you do with it
- You scroll through it, but you are looking for one sentence minimum in regard to what you do in the fishbowl
- During the search- must know authors name
- Can’t talk about film without knowing the actors
- Every time asked to google a name, don’t skip on it
- Understand the word

How do you design a group or organization? (three people)
How do you design an organization that allows group interaction in a way that the group is continually innovative
The communication can be lost
It has to be communication which adds value – how we communicate in the fishbowl

You’re watching how you select these words
Reflect on the problems

We should go to conferences that have to do with funding
Soft power- google search
If you don't register you won't be leaving a digital footprint
Strictly ballroom
- can see that from the metaphorical view
if we are hungry we will not learn
Dichotomy
The opening sentence is the ideal one
A metaphor is a BRIDGE between the CONCRETE world and the ABSTRACT MIND, LINKING something KNOWN to the SENSES with an abstraction of the mind always WORKING to DESCRIBE the abstract with the concrete
Bridge- connection
Concrete- hard
Abstract Mind- different thoughts
Linking- together
Known- sensed
Senses- felt
Working- do
Describe- define
- As I am working on linking my mind to my senses, I think about the abstract approach that is known to create and describe a concrete bridge.
- As I define what I sensed and the feelings I had, I felt a connection to different thoughts which was hard for me to do in the past
Conscious is a mans compass
Creating something or the other

Money is made if you have conceptual skills
Always taking notes because learning happens after
You are learning to abstract, we are doing it in steps
Sequential journey of our mind
The felt experience matches the abstraction
Images, symbol, perception
Learning to empower your text
Reification**- a complex idea for when you treat something immaterial – like happiness, fear, or evil – as a material thing. This can be a way to make something concrete and easier to understand, like how a wedding ring is the reification of a couple’s love.
File the emails away
We are learning to write our own textbook
Learning to be yourself
Social constructivism
Participant observations
Symbolic interaction
Self and social reflexivity
START WITH THE FEELING
Movie Notes 10/23/19
Opening with an emotional song and things falling from the sky
Title: They Guys
Voiceovers with blank screen of just the words
Main character grew up in Oklahoma and moved to NYC
Saw dead bodies when she lived in Europe
Has two children
Acting – watch the faces
Difficult collaboration
He lost 8 men and she is writing 8 eulogies
A management problem
Shes the leader of the two
He’s the captain but he can’t do it and needs help from her
Evoking images and words
Very traditional
Human problems are extraordinary
Look at their relationship as well
Felt experiences
Hes the captain
Self reflexivity
Imagination and text and images
The impact is extraordinary when you impact the text
Struggling to remember someone’s face
Constructing meaning and it is a process and it has been going on since the beginning
Otherwise everything is meaningless
Felt experiences and images, ALWAYS
He can’t imagine doing anything else
The connection is happening
She is immersed in it
Shes engaged in it
Disclosures
A very interesting interaction about him dancing
Hes the boss now but she still is the leader here
