- Realize: to bring something into concrete reality
Example: After my freshman year of college, I realized I wanted to study the business side of the fashion industry.
- Experience: The state of having been affected by or gaining knowledge from direct observation or participation
Example: My internship this summer gave me experience in a position I plan to pursue after college.
- Happen: To occur as an event, process or result
Example: You may never know what could happen if you don’t try.
- See: To perceive by the eye
Example: I am near sighted so I can’t see far away when I am not wearing contacts or glasses.
- Scheme: A plan of action, especially a crafty or sneaky one
Example: Getting caught up in other people’s schemes without thinking about the consequences can get you in trouble.
- Re-design: To revise in appearance, function or content
Example: I had to redesign my work schedule to fit around my course workload.
- Possibility: A thing that may happen
Example: When talking about someone, there is always the possibility that they will find out what you said about them.
- Challenge: To stimulate especially by presenting with difficulties
Example: It is important to challenge yourself to be a better person everyday.
- Talisman: An object held to act as a charm to avert evil or bring good fortune
Example: A twisted horn charm, called a cornicello, is worn by Italians to ward off evil.
- Select: chosen from a group based on performance
Example: When I am making my schedule for the next semester, most of the time I select the course based on the professor.
- Word: A series of speech sounds that symbolizes and communicates a meaning usually without being divisible into smaller units capable of independent use
Example: Choosing the right words to say to someone can sometimes be difficult.
- Prevail: To prove more powerful than opposing forces
Example: When you work hard, it feels good to prevail over the competition.
- Mull: To consider at length
Example: Every Sunday, I mull over my planner and to do list to prepare myself for the upcoming school week.
- Digest: To take into the mind or memory
Example: It is important for me to read over my notes after my classes so that I can digest the information better.

Depict: to represent as a picture
Example: I like taking photos with my friends that depict us having fun together
Mechanistic: Mechanically determined
Way: A manner or method of doing
Example: A professor’s way of thinking may be different than your own.
Illusion: A perception of something objectively existing in such a way as to cause misinterpretation of its actual nature
Example: Makeup can be used to create an illusion of facial features that someone doesn’t biologically have.
Discern: To recognize as separate and distinct
Example: In certain situations it can be difficult to discern right from wrong.
Picture: A description so vivid or graphic as to suggest a mental image or give an accurate idea of something
Example: When someone is a good storyteller, you are able to picture the situation as if you were there.
Expression: Something that symbolizes something else
Example: Fashion is an expression of one’s self.
Intimacy: Something of a personal or private nature
Agency: The capacity, condition or state of acting or exerting power
Emotion: A state of feeling
Example: Everyone shows emotion in their own unique way.
Creativity: The ability to create
Example: I like to express my creativity through my clothes.
Self: An individual's typical character or behavior
Example: People don’t see my true self until they get to know me better.
Form: the component of a thing that determines its kind
Friendship: the state of being friends
Example: Communication is an important aspect of a good friendship.
Theory: a belief, policy, or procedure proposed or followed as the basis of action
Example: Conspiracy theories are not based on facts.
Generative: Having the power to produce or generate
Influence: the power or capacity of causing an effect in indirect or intangible ways
Example: News media has a powerful influence on the political opinions of the people.
Resemblance: The quality or state of resembling
Example: Not everyone shows exact resemblance to their parents.
Imitation: The action of using someone or something as a model.
Analogy: A comparison between two different ideas or things for the purpose of explanation
Example: An example of a common analogy is “life is like a race”.
Becoming: The process of coming to be something
Example: College is a time where everyone is becoming their own person.

Formation: the action or process of being formed
Example: The formation of dust occurs when surfaces aren’t cleaned often.
Nascent: recently come into existence
Example: Our nascent professional careers will hopefully begin after graduation.
Transmission: an act of transmitting
Example: When you are sick it is important to keep to yourself in order to avoid the transmission of your cold to others.
Construction: the process of constructing something
Example: The Brookside apartments on campus have been under construction longer than anticipated.
Remember: To bring to mind or think again
Example: When taking a cumulative final exam, it is not always easy to remember all the coursework from the entire semester.
Forget: to lose the remembrance of
Example: It can be embarrassing when you forget someone’s name that you have met before.
Know: To have understanding of
Example: If you go to every class session, pay attention, take notes and study the coursework you will know enough for the exam.
Knowledge: The range of one’s information or understanding
Example: When I am unsure of a question on an exam, I try to answer it to the best of my knowledge.
Create: to bring into existence
Example: Steve Jobs created the Apple brand.
Affirmation: something affirmed- a position assertion
Thought: A product of thinking
Example: It is important to respect others thoughts and opinions because you never know their reasoning for them.
Insight: The power of seeing into a situation
Example: Biographies give insight into famous figures’ lives.
Understanding: The power of comprehending
Example: By paying attention in class, asking questions and completing assignments you will develop a better understanding of the course material.
Intuition: the power or faculty of attaining direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference
Grasp: To lay hold of with the mind
Example: Everyone’s brains are wired differently so it takes different amounts of time for people to grasp certain topics in class.
Feeling: An emotional state or reaction
Example: Getting to know someone you are attracted to can lead to deeper feelings towards them.
Empathy: The action of understanding, being aware of and being sensitive to the experiences of another
Example: At a funeral it is polite to be empathetic towards the family in mourning.
Sensibility: awareness of and responsiveness toward something
Expression: an act, process, or instance of representing in a medium
Example: Expression is unique to every single person.
