Storm as a metaphor for your creative process

Post by Haley Nathanson » 06 Nov 2019, 15:02

Our creative process acts like a storm; it is unpredictable, strong, and varies. The ideas we make throughout the rest of the semester will build up together creating one big storm. "Creation is, in this respect, truly “in the (mind’s) eyes of the beholder,” and principal consequence of the process is transformation."
-- we are the only ones who can make this storm as we are the ones who hold our own creative capacities.

Got the far

"we believe friendship exists if enough threads of intellectual exchange and reciprocated sentiment are present"
-- making a friendship bracelet, you use different color threads and different directions of knots. This is related to how we form friendships; with different personalities and connections. The bond of a friendship takes time to form, it doesnt just happen.

cybernetics

Our fishbowls are a new way of learning aside from the textbook style we are used to. They are unpredictable and have no sense of structure because they are always changing. We get to see the different phases it goes through; the beginning and how we are able to make it evolve into our own type of textbook.

Forming theory

Post by Haley Nathanson » 20 Nov 2019, 14:08

In this class we should not strive to write and think like Sanjiv, but to discover our own way of thinking. We can do this by deconstructing our own words and those from our group members. Working in the fishbowl will help us find our voice.

Reorienting ones vision

Post by Haley Nathanson » 20 Nov 2019, 14:14

When we are doing our work on the sentences we need to remember to keep referring back to the original sentence. When we forget to do this we go off on a spiral and forget the purpose. Reorienting keeps us from loosing sight of meaning. It can be easy to get distracted when working in the 10 steps and reorienting helps us balance.

Recounting anecdotes

Post by Haley Nathanson » 20 Nov 2019, 14:17

We area able to honor our experiences in the Fishbowl by reliving them when we write them out. Anecdotes should be short, theories are long, but we can change this and make our anecdotes meaningful enough to be theories.

Got the far

Post by Haley Nathanson » 20 Nov 2019, 20:18

The fishbowl is an example of workplace friendships - we are so used to school and academics being a competition to see who get a better grade, but we want to now focus less on competition and more on learning through each other.

The world pools we come up with help each other open our minds to new words we may not be accustomed to.

The letter goes over workplace friendship again, and introduces the concepts of the class and how the class is structured.

Framing the second abstract

Post by Haley Nathanson » 21 Nov 2019, 11:31

Organizations have learnt that chasing numbers does not translate into productivity and that linear thinking is archaic. Clearly, functioning effectively as a team is far more valuable than setting numerical targets and goals.

-- we strive to shift from competition to collaboration. We cannot grow and learn in a competitive environment, that is why sanjiv has created the fishbowl where we can work together and share ideas. He has taken the "grading" aspect out of the class and this makes us focus less on our numbers and more on our experience.

Reflecting on ones history

Post by Haley Nathanson » 01 Dec 2019, 13:10

Our fishbowls act as history of this past semester and our work. We should reflect on our past work and see how we have demonstrated growth throughout the semester. We as a group are involved in interplay because we work together and we each affect our groups as individuals.

Thoughts, the morning after thanksgiving

Post by Haley Nathanson » 01 Dec 2019, 13:14

Perspective requires distance. This stuck out for me in this letter; I think this is something we overlook often times in our lives. We cannot simply see different perspectives after one glance, it takes time and going back to the issue to develop different thoughts on it.
