Understanding Design

Recapping methodology of the fishbowl
- Participant observation – used as research technique to be able to gain entrance into a group by being socially accepted so they can better attain a comprehensive understanding of the internal structure of the society
- Social construction of reality – a theory that the way we present ourselves to other people is shaped partly by our interactions with others and our life experiences
- Symbolic interactionism – the view of social behavior that emphasizes linguistic or gestural communications and its subjective understandings, especially with language in a young child.
- Action Research – Seeks transformative change through the simultaneous process of taking action and doing research

- Reader-response theory – is the reaction to particular text

The Nature of metaphor
- Rhizome – a continuously growing horizontal underground stem which puts out lateral shoots and adventitious roots at intervals

- Anecdotal theory – cuts through opposition to produce a theory with a sense of humor, theorizing which honors the uncanny details of lived experiences.
- Jane Gallop – Addresses many major questions of feminist theory which is where part of the anecdotal theory derives from

- Cybernetics (Wiki) – a transdisplinary approach for exploring regulatory systems, their structures, constraints, and possibilities.

Relevance (wiki) – the concept of one topic being connected to another topic in a way that akes it useful to consider the second topic while considering the first topic
