Social Meeting Exercise

1. Feeling before the meeting
I will be meeting with my group during class time this Wednesday. As opposed to some people in the class who might not be familiar with those in their group, I have already had classes with and know both of my other group members, Colby and Quasia. With that being said, I'm not nervous or uneasy about our first time convening as a group. I am excited to get to know them more and curious to see how our conversations will develop.

2. Summary of the meeting
Our group decided that we would meet at Cool Beans, a coffee shop near Narragansett Town Beach. It was a nice day, so we sat outside to enjoy the weather. We started talking about the course and cleared up any confusion that we might have had regarding the expectations and various topics that were to be covered in the Fishbowl. Our conversation quickly turned to our other classes and how they compared to previous classes we have taken. We then talked more about other classes we've had in the past and different professors that each of us had taken classes with. Our conversation was very relaxed and fluid, and we continuously jumped from topic to topic. We talked about how we were all Rhode Island natives and came from different parts of the state. Following that, we talked about iPhones and compared the cameras on each of our phones, as I noticed that Quasia had the newest iPhone. We took pictures of some flowers and also of Colby's drink to see if there was a noticeable difference in quality We then talked about different current events in the world, most notably in the tech industry. Our conversation lasted about 30-45 minutes and we all left much more comfortable with each other, looking forward to future meetings.

3. Vocabulary

Presumption: an attitude or belief dictated by probability
Spontaneous: proceeding from natural feeling or native tendency without external constraint
Detached: exhibiting an aloof objectivity usually free from prejudice or self-interest
Venture: an undertaking involving chance, risk, or danger
Clarity: the quality or state of being clear
Essence: the individual, real, or ultimate nature of a thing especially as opposed to its existence

Rather than making a presumption, there's freedom in allowing the future to be spontaneous.

While we may have had an idea of how our social meeting was going to pan out, it most definitely didn't happen in the way that any of us expected.

It's easy to stay within your comfort zone and become detached to uncertainty, however you can learn more and more with every new venture.

We all found that we were from Rhode Island, but hadn't necessarily explored and learned about other parts of the state, despite it being so small. We're all used to and comfortable with the places we know, but realized that there were places we hadn't even thought about visiting.

A lack of clarity can prevent you from appreciating something's true essence.

Upon comparing phones, we realized that the quality of our cameras was surprisingly different. The picture of the flower that I took on my phone didn't capture the beauty that Quasia's picture did with the latest iPhone.
