When watching the film, some of the directors touch I noticed was camera angles and frames in the opening scene. The colors were mundane outlining the silhouettes of the dancers, and then it drastically jumps into the first dancing scene
-Scott became boxed/blocked in (every metaphor has its own category)
-Ballentine is very similar. They run on a machine like process. Faculty are often like the mother. Afraid of innovation and real emotion
-People claim the words of expertise. But that’s not true. We need to hold one another at the same level
- Machine metaphor means it cannot handle emotion.
- No one cares about what they genuinely feel, they prefer to keep going how it will be forever
- You will lose attention of the audience if you follow strict steps. Which is why we must move on to a living text
- There is always a prehistory. Scott has a prehistory before the current context
- Everyone admires those who go against the grain (Scott) but no one wants to work with him
- In spite of creativity, his sexism/condescending nature is what becomes his Achilles heel
- Crying is an act of frustration
- Fran is the surprising creative that outshines Scott who thought he was the only one\
- Give credit to age and expertise
- "to live with fear is to half live."
- Vision Statement: Guiding light
- The key: Don’t worry about winning, just dance your steps
- History will repeat itself if its not passed down
- Scott says life has been hard, but Fran exclaims that her life has been way harder
-"can I bend your ear for a tick?'
Love is in the air
