"It takes focus to tune-in with Feelings and Images and Words. Emotions are evoked by Text and Images. Always has been. This trinity drives our actions. Furthermore, it is now on our digital screens and at our finger-tips. The images we see on our screens are determined by the decisions we make on our key boards. Thereby we evoke emotions felt in our bodies.
There is an overlap of the two courses 443 and 345 and the letters will be common. This is because we have to get up to speed with things like metaphor, framework, distance, perspective, imagination, space, experience, learning,.... However, the difference is in the subject matter; the contemplation is different for Society and Design.
In both courses, you are Making Space. Consciously or not, we feel and internalize what the space tells us about how to work. When you enter the third floor of Ballantine, the space tells you that it’s meant for a group of people to work alone.
In BUS345 we are making a social space among ourselves.
In BUS443, we are designing an innovative space.

Sanjiv,
I have always believed that the amount of information that we have at our finger-tips has been an amazing advancement, but takes away many social responsibilities from us as a community. Some use their phones or laptops to hide from what is around them, using their screens as a coping mechanism for lack of social interaction, particularly in regards to empathy to others. It is up to us to design a space where we can use these tools effectively and change this direction.
