Idealizations
“Life is a constant adjustment between the models we make and realities we encounter.”
In our head, we plan or think out how a situation will turn out. Most of the time, it ends in a way that was unexpected from the original thought. Rather than turning away from it, we adjust to the new, unknown outcome. We experienced this already during our Social Meeting exercise. We didn’t know each other in my group, therefore I created a scenario in my mind as to how I thought our social interaction would go. I had to adjust in person to the reality that unfolded, which differed from my original model.
IDEAL: existing only in the imagination; desirable or perfect but not likely to become a reality
IDEALIZATION: the action of regarding or representing something as perfect or better than in reality
PLURAL: containing several diverse elements
DEPICTION: the action or result of depicting something, especially in art
INTERPRET: explain the meaning of (information, words, or actions)

Society of consumers
Google Zygmunt Bauman
Liquid modernity → the characterization of today's highly developed global societies as the continuation (or development) of modernity rather than as an element of the succeeding era known as postmodernity
Watch YouTube Video on commodity
“In this new consumer society, we become simultaneously the promoters of commodities and the commodities we promote.”
Everyone is using the Internet, especially social media. This has made us became major promoters in the simplest way, as we create posts containing products or commodities that are shared to our followers. We all have an influence on each other through this process, making us promoters of commodities.
VIGNETTE: a brief evocative description, account, or episode
EPISODE: an event or a group of events occurring as part of a larger sequence; an incident or period considered in isolation
EVENT: a thing that happens, especially one of importance
VOICE: a particular opinion or attitude expressed
CREATE: bring (something) into existence
POSSIBILITY: a thing that may happen or be the case

Living mindfully in cyber-culture
“The mindful use of digital media doesn’t happen automatically. Thinking about what you are doing and why you are doing it instead of going through the motions is fundamental to the definition of mindful…”
As time goes on, we learn and adapt to the use of digital media. It defines how we live today and we make decisions unconscientiously.
LITERACY: the ability to read and write
KNOW-HOW: practical knowledge or skill; expertise
DEPLOY: bring into effective action; utilize
ATTENTION: notice taken of someone or something; the regarding of someone or something as interesting or important
PARTICIPATION: the action of taking part in something
COLLABORATION: the action of working with someone to produce or create something
NETWORK: a group or system of interconnected people or things

Thinking Process
“Dichotomies are the foundation for building structural spaces where thoughts and feelings can flourish”
With dichotomies, we are able to distinguish between opposites and create an understanding of both words. This allows us to build upon our knowledge and also create a sense of what it is like to have differing views. In a way, dichotomies are like people - different and unique.
DECISION: a conclusion or resolution reached after consideration
DIFFERENCE: a point or way in which people or things are not the same
DEVELOPMENT: a specified state of growth or advancement
SOLITUDE: the state or situation of being alone
MEANING: what is meant by a word, text, concept, or action
PROCESS: a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end

Apperception
“Sharing the world between us is a complex matter and warrants our attention.”
This statement reminds me of what is currently going on in the world today. It brings my mind to Greta Thunberg and her campaign on climate change. She is a 16 year old environmental activist try to share the environmental problems we have within the world, and it is a complex matter due to the opposing views others have on it.
SHARING: tell someone about (something, especially something personal)
WARRANTS: justification or authority for an action, belief, or feeling
ATTENTION: notice taken of someone or something; the regarding of someone or something as interesting or important
TRANSPARENCY: the condition of being transparent
AUTHENTIC: of undisputed origin; genuine

Pursuing international conferences
“In the meantime, we are constructing as to what we are doing and saying and feeling.”
Our time in the Fishbowl is constant. With every post, we tell a story. This allows us to depict to others within the class, as well as to those within the conference, our thoughts and syntax. It is an abstract of the mind that we are presenting to others and gaining feedback on, or even differing views.
ABSTRACT: existing in thought or as an idea but not having a physical or concrete existence
THEME: the subject or a talk, a piece or writing, a person’s thoughts, or an exhibition; a topic
ADDRESS: a formal speech delivered to an audience
THEORETICAL: concerned with or involving the theory of a subject or area of study rather than its practical application
CONSTRUCT: form (an idea or theory) by bringing together various conceptual elements; typically over a period of time
METHOD: orderliness of thought or behavior; systematic planning or action
OUTCOME: the way a thing turns out; a consequence
EMERGE: move out or away from something and come into view
TENTATIVE: not certain or fixed; provisional

Knowledge construction in a knowledge economy
Look at EGOS website
“We are knowledge-workers, looking to being involved in the process of knowledge construction in a knowledge economy”
As we move throughout life and within the Fishbowl, we are constantly gaining and looking for new knowledge. We try to help others form new ideas while sharing our own. Knowledge is the foundation in which we build relationships and ideas that bring our world into the future. All it takes is one thought to spread the knowledge to others.
KNOWLEDGE: awareness or familiarity gained by experience of a fact or situation
THEME: the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person’s thoughts, or an exhibition; a topic
CONSTRUCTION: the creation or formation of an abstract entity
WORKER: a person who produces or achieves a specified thing
ECONOMY: careful management of available resources

Understanding design
Google tacit-knowledge
“Making that knowledge explicit offers the possibility for renewed discovery and development.”
If we aren’t being direct, it can bring about confusion and miscommunication. When we are direct, we are able to get things done and move forward. It is important to make knowledge explicit when being a leader, which can bring us to set goals and new ideas.
EXPLICIT: stated clearly and in detail, leaving no room for confusion or doubt
IMPLICIT: implied though not plainly expressed
TACIT: understood or implied without being stated
KNOWLEDGE: facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education

Technologies of lived abstraction
Google technologies of lived abstraction
Google Brian Massumi
“When you are working on your structures, individually and together, it is important that you share iterations, building blocks and stuff discarded.”
As children, we learned to share. It is an integral part of working as adults that we share our thoughts when it comes to a work setting, relationships, and overall communication. By sharing our thoughts with others, we can build something great and strong. In order to see success, you have to share all thoughts, even the ones that had mistakes. With this, you’re providing yourself and others with learning from past ideas, growth and development.
TECHNOLOGY: the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry
ESSENCE: the intrinsic nature or indispensable quality of something, especially something abstract, that determines its character
LIVE: supply oneself with the means of subsistence

Re: Reflections on Letters
Friendship again
“Who are we, really, when we silence the vanity of who we should be?”
I am not sure if people ever really do know who they truly are. Our perceptions of who we should be are shown to us at an early age, whether it is by our parents, mentors, teachers, or friends. We want to be like others that inspire us. When we put the idea of how others are in comparison to us aside, do we still want to be who we originally were? Or are we afraid of the idea of being our true self?
MEDITATION: the action or practice of meditating
RECOGNIZE: identify (someone or something) from having encountered them before; know again
GRASP: seize and hold firmly

Creative action
“This creative action has a risk component: will it succeed?”
There is a risk in everything we do when it comes to our success. Every decision we make will correspond to it. When we design, it is no different. As long as we design through our own original thinking, can stand by it, and explain it well, there is a chance it will succeed. It doesn’t have to be a creative act that others will agree with, but as long as it can be understood, it can succeed.
LOOK: think of or regard in a specified way
ACTION: the fact or process of doing something, typically to achieve an aim
WAY: a method, style, or manner of doing something
FRAME: a basic structure that underlies or supports a system, concept, or text
CREATE: bring (something) into existence

Engagement and construction
“We’re looking at each other looking at each other.”
Through the Fishbowl, we are sharing with each other, collaborating together, giving each other feedback, and learning. We see what the other is able to create from their mind and expand upon it through our own creative learning. As we’ve moved forward throughout the semester, we have watched each other develop our designs to be what they are today. From something simple and young, to complex and strong.
ENGAGEMENT: an arrangement to do something or go somewhere at a fixed time
CONSTRUCTION: an interpretation or explanation
