Reader-response criticism is a school of literary theory that focuses on the reader (or “audience”) and their experience of a literary work, in contrast to other schools and theories that focus attention primarily on the author or the content and form of the work.
Reader response theory- making the story personal.
Connecting with the contents on a personal level, interpreted through your perception based on your own experiences. There is a template there, and a frame of reference, but ultimately the value and experience from what is read is a personal experience, specific to individuals.
Commonalities may be found together with like minded individuals, similar interpretations similar experiences amongst different people from all different backgrounds. Personally, I wasn’t much of a reader until age 24, roughly, and since then I have really found a joy in reading, all sorts of different pieces, fiction or non fiction, informational biographical or memoir all sorts of different interpretations.
A lot to be understood, contemplated, and or explored. The actual living experience, in my opinion, transcends the literary experience, but it is all connected in a way and balanced as such that one would not exist without the other. The real treat is experiencing as much as possible and being aware enough along the way to have some enjoyment and be thankful for the opportunity.
