Metaphor Assignment
Structure

Creative thinking is a gateway which links the materialistic world to the endless possibilities of human imagination, embracing feelings and ideas that humans have into an idea that can be easily understood by others.

Word Pool

Gateway:a means of access or entry to a place

Materialistic:excessively concerned with material possessions; money-oriented.

Imagination:the faculty or action of forming new ideas, or images or concepts of external objects not present to the senses.

Embracing:hold (someone) closely in one's arms, especially as a sign of affection.

Understood:perceive the intended meaning of (words, a language, or a speaker)

Restructure

We as a society must find a GATEWAY that allows for the MATERIALISTIC world to live in harmony with the abstract IMAGINATION of the mind, that can EMBRACE and UNDERSTAND all of the creative thinkers of the world.

Felt Experience
Coming to college and meeting new people was a way that I was able to bridge the gap between the materialistic world and the creative world. I feel that I grew up in an area where the focus is more on making money and competition rather than free thinking.

1:2:3

Nicole: Combine, Connect, Construction
Andrew: Gateway, Materialistic, Embracing

Dichotomy

As a group, Nicole and I were able to use these 6 words to describe the metaphors that we came up with. We decided that these words fit suit best and were able to get the point we wanted to convey. Each of these words represent different feelings, emotions, and symbols.

Unify words to connect

Gateway:a means of achieving a state or condition.
Materialistic: anything that exists.

The gateway that we a society set up enables us to take materialistic things and look at them in a more creative way

Felt Experience

I feel that in order for someone to creatively think they need to make sure that they are broadening their horizion. One must make an effort to get out of their own comfort zone in order for the creative process to work.

Perceptual Categories

Nicole About her personal experiences: Construction
Nicole About her knowledge:Combine
Nicole About how she views the world: Connect

Andrew About Personal experiences:Materialistic
Andrew about knowledge:Gateway
Andrew about viewing the world: Embracing

Insight

This assignment allows for a creative thinking process to occur. By taking words and breaking them down into word pools and using those words to then describe other words allows for the mind to think creatively. By simply stopping after a few words and not digging deeper, the mind stops thinking. Challenging the human brain to think differently is the only way for growth as a person.

I agree with your last sort of summary on this assignment. The breaking down words into more specific sub categories and examining all of that ultimately to enrich your understanding is highly effective. You then begin to see these correlations and deeper meanings in everyday life, they present themselves more naturally because you have allowed that facet of your mind to become open. Its beneficial for growth, as you said, to challenging your brain to think differently, its an exercise in new understanding. Even when we feel we understand something whole heartedly we have to still remain open to the prospect of having to reexamine that concept and be prepared to reform what we may have been initially convinced of, making room for new understandings.
