Assignment 3
Nicole Faiss
Andrew Easse
Opening Structure:
“ Knowledge as objective or literal truth places too much emphasis on the object, of knowledge and not enough on paradigms, perspectives, assumptions, language games, and frames of reference, of the observer.”

Re-structure:
Nicole: We use the knowledge we have acquired in the past to structure our own views and opinions. It is hard to see things from a different perspective when we use our past experiences to guide us.
Andrew: Knowledge comes from the literal experiences that we have encountered. We learn from what we have done, which allows us to make assumptions about the paradigms and perspectives that have yet to occur.
Re Felt Experience
Nicole: Most people never take into account small details. It is easy to hold a grudge on someone when you don’t know what they are going through. We have our own personal knowledge on the subject. My sister and I don’t speak. I like to believe it’s not my fault. Numerous birthdays have gone by where I reach out and get nothing in return. I believe I'm not in the wrong because a majority of my family agrees with me. The knowledge that my sister perceives differently is why we still may not talk. She could be thinking about something completely different than myself. The problem could be that both of us are making assumptions about the other and neither of us wants to be the first one to apologize.
Andrew: They say that knowledge is power. In order to have an understanding of how the world works we must take into account every point of view possible. This comes from reading, listening, and learning about how people conduct their everyday lives. Most of the problems in this world come from those who do not listen. They are narrow-minded and believe that if they did not come up with the idea it is wrong. This way of thinking only creates more problems. While at work this past summer, I was faced with a few problems along the way. I was always working with people from different backgrounds who had different ideas on how to solve problems. I made sure that I listened to each person who was speaking in order to collect all the information that I could in order to come up with a solution to the problems that we were facing.

A/B(Saddening/ Aware)
Word Pool
Saddening: cause to feel sorrow; make unhappy.
Aware: having knowledge or perception of a situation or fact.
Assumptions
WORD TWO: Saddening/Aware
Joint Structure:
Being painfully aware of a saddening situation allows for reality to set in while focusing on our perspectives, rather than knowledge itself.
Re Felt experience
Nicole: Knowledge is technically a philosophy. What are our sources? What is its structure, its limits? Often I find myself justifying my feelings and calling it knowledge. I have knowledge of events that make me angry. A professor I had expected us to come to another lecture she held at a different time due to weather cancelation. Was she considerate of that fact I had another class to go to? She was to teach information that we needed to know to complete an assignment. A majority of my class was unable to attend because of a prior commitment. Is it the knowledge that this unfair or is it my perception of the situation? I am still angry. I am aware that this professor wanted to complete the semester as intended. Justified or not I think this is wrong. I am allowed my believed perception.
Andrew: We all must understand that just because we believe that something is rational others may not. I have been in many situations with people who believe that since they have experience and knowledge of a situation that they are always correct. This is simply not true, yes have a good understanding of how something works or how something needs to be done is very important, but it is very beneficial to always keep the opinions of others in mind. Some people are too self-centered where they cannot fathom the idea that they are wrong. I have been in many situations with my friends, at school, or at work where someone says something and it is wrong but they do not believe that it is wrong. These stubborn people hold back everyone because they do not allow for the flow of knowledge to occur. The old saying “You can't teach an old dog new tricks” is completely false. We learn new things every day. That is called active learning. Whether we are 1 year old or 100, there is always time to learn new things.

Insight and Realization:
Nicole: We don’t all see eye to eye. We exist as individuals in school, relationships, friendships. It is easy to get entangled in our own thoughts and beliefs. The attributes that cause people to perceive things differently are our individual differences. Physiological and physical traits can all contribute to our perceptions. It is up to us as a society to not use our knowledge of something to define how we perceive someone. You never know what someone is going through from the outside looking in. Know the difference between practical and literal truth. We may have genuine insight on something but that doesn’t mean its literal. Our goal is to make our assumptions understood, but if we take a step back and realize they are only our own the world would be an easier place.
Andrew: We as a society must understand that in order to grow we have to understand and listen to the opinions of all the people around us. Simply allowing someone to speak their mind and giving them the ability to voice their opinion allows for human growth. We see in the news that there are so many different problems going on throughout the world. Some very complicated others not as complicated, but we try to find ways to solve these problems. The only way for these problems to be solved is to listen to the words of both sides. By doing a small thing like listening, we would save ourselves from numerous problems that are occurring. It is very easy to just say that listening will solve all the world's problems, and I understand that there are many different factors that go into why certain groups are upset, but the only way to solve these problems is to communicate. Communication is the greatest gift that we as humans possess. We are able to speak words and formulate sentences that allow us to tell others exactly how we feel. If we all just communicated and listened when others spoke, we would find ourselves in a much better world.
