Strictly Ballroom showed us that originality is to be cherished. In this new world, we use metaphor to see past expectations and to further our outlook. Once Scott moved past the machine metaphor, he was able to utilize all of his capabilities to the fullest. Society is often like Scott's mother in Ballroom. They try to mold us into machine-like individuals. Imitation should not be the standard that we strive for. Scott's ability to overcome expectation is rewarded once he is able to overcome the bureaucracy of the judges.
