looking at what we're looking at- response

Post by Brookebolofsky » 05 Nov 2019, 10:34

"We learn from experience and by doing it hands-on for real"

Doing things hands on allows learning to take place. I know from my own experience when I try something and do it for myself I learn better and understand better. This is what we are doing in the fishbowl we are create our own structures and responding to the fishbowl on our own. This allows for learning to occur.

Simultaneous reading and writing- respond

Post by Brookebolofsky » 05 Nov 2019, 12:38

Sanjiv is focusing all of his time and effort on reading our structures. Our structures are helping us learn but also helping him learn at the same time. He has canceled all of his plans to focus his time. He creates a new meaning when reading our structures. It is beneficial for us all our structures.

"You must pass it by others"
Sharing knowledge and information with others is very important. One can always learn more. Learning from others is important as everyone has different perspectives and opinions. Passing your knowledge can benefit everyone. Learning is power.

forming theory with anecdotal evidence- response

Post by Brookebolofsky » 05 Nov 2019, 13:16

"We all operate under our own metaphors"
A metaphor can be whatever we want it to be. It can be words combined together that associate together or not at all. Metaphors are important when creating structures. Metaphors are necessary in this class and in the fishbowl. Understanding the metaphor and creating meaning is even more important. Metaphors are made up of words and words are made up of definitions that are used to us help interpret the metaphor.

just live!- response- assignment

Post by Brookebolofsky » 05 Nov 2019, 13:32

After that, please take a look at your notings, and match them with personal, lived and experienced examples.

1. Note the words that are evoked in you by the facial expressions (images).
- Admire: It is nice that the man is being nice to the man who write poetry. It seemed at first as he was not being so kind but now he is complimenting him.
- Unsure: I am a tad unsure of what is going on. I have watched the video multiple times. But I am still unsure as it is a small clip. If I had watched the clip from the beginning of the movie I would understand better what is happening.
2. Note the images that are evoked in you by the text.
- Perhaps you travel: Many people ask me if I travel a lot. As many of my examples I use or stories I tell involve me traveling with family. My family thinks that traveling is very important, learning a new culture and experiencing it is important.
- Take your time: This statements reminds me of my dad. He always tells me to take my time no matter what I am doing. He wants me to get things done correctly and to get to places safely. It is much better to do it right and get where you have to go safely and slower than to be in a hurry.

Paradigm shift- response- Strictly Ballroom

Post by Brookebolofsky » 05 Nov 2019, 18:58

Comparing parts of Strictly Ballroom to our life with examples:
1. When Scott Hastings dance partner Pam Short got into an accident and broke her legs he had to find a new dance partner. He was in a bind. He was needing a partner desperately. This was a stressful time for Scott. Needing to have a partner to ballroom dance and not have one. He would not be able to dance if he did not find a partner. This makes me think of the time in my life when I was a cheerleader. I did cheerleading from kindergarten till 8th grade. I was always in a group to do our pyramids. Whenever someone could not make a game it made it frustrating and difficult as we quickly would have to rearrange all of the pyramids so the routine would look good. This can be frustrating when people can not attend their practice or game or in Scott's case the dance.

2. Scott Hastings the main character of Strictly Ballroom has been training to be a dancer his entire life. When training for something for so long it is your passion and something you put all of your efforts into. Scott Hastings family is all dancers. He feels the pressure from his parents to be a successful dancer. Not only is he trying to be a great ballroom dancer he is trying to put his own flare into it. As he wants to be different and set himself apart from others. This makes me think of the time when I played tennis. I grew up always playing tennis casually for fun. My dad used to be a great tennis player, he worked at a tennis racquet club in New York growing up. I had a passion for tennis and loved it but still felt the pressure. I would have private tennis lessons during the week and early mornings on weekends. I wanted to do well. I tried my hardest but still would mess up on the court during the game. But all I could do was try my best and have fun as it was a sport!

widening your range of caring: response

Post by Brookebolofsky » 07 Nov 2019, 13:16

Every 10+1 structure has been graded. Sanjiv has a mental conversation with each one of his students when writing feedback down for them on their papers. This feedback is important for the students to learn. Learning what you did not do correctly on a assignment allows you to get better and learn from mistakes.

Reorienting One's Vision: The return: response

Post by Brookebolofsky » 07 Nov 2019, 13:37

“always return to the site."

This is very important. Always returning to the fishbowl. Learning from others, learning from yourself. One can never learn too much. Everyone has different interpretations and ideas and by returning to the fishbowl you can understand what is going on better. Interpretation is key and so is learning. Never avoid reading on the fishbowl and other class mates responses.

Recounting anecdotes and honoring lived experiences- response

Post by Brookebolofsky » 12 Nov 2019, 19:04

In our fishbowls we are learning. At the same time we are relating our thoughts to our own experiences. Personal experiences help us connect to the letters. When relating things together it is easier to remember and to understand.

cybernetics and your fishbowls- response

Post by Brookebolofsky » 13 Nov 2019, 16:58

"never ending work-in-process. Until the bell rings"

Fishbowls are something that are always going to be worked on, until the semester ends. They are never finished. You are able to go back and edit what you have posted. I have been going back and looking at my 10+1 structures and editing them, once I get my hard copy back. As it is a work in progress it helps me learn. As I am learning in class I can go back to my fishbowl and update it with my new knowledge.

please fact-check your virtual products in your fishbowls- response

Post by Brookebolofsky » 13 Nov 2019, 17:38

This coming week is online. Sanjiv will be creating/writing his abstracts. Our fishbowl posts are helping him form his abstracts. It will take time and effort, will not happen over night. To get ideas for abstracts that is where he uses our postings to get ideas and inspiration. His abstracts will evolve over time.
