A designer's notes

Post by Katie Bergantine » 06 Oct 2019, 19:05

"We learn from each other’s notes."

We can gain an appreciation and understanding of the way our peers interpret the same piece of writing. We might gain insight in a way we did not previously think we would.

Thinking about metaphor

"we hang onto our illusions and fight until death do us part"

People can be thick headed. People can also be close minded, if they so choose to be. I interpret this as it is human nature to not want to stray from our beliefs, our ideas about ourselves and other people. However, with an open mind we can learn so much about life and each other.

New forms of intimacy and friendship

Post by Katie Bergantine » 23 Oct 2019, 15:31

‘There is a global revolution going on in how we think of ourselves and how we form ties and connections with others’

People are connecting on all different levels now, thanks to technology and the changing way of our lives. We are more conscious of the ties that we form with other people and the way that we do that, for instance making friends through a group meeting for a class is somewhat uncommon. However, it is one of many new ways that people are forming friendships.

"It is our words that create meaning"

Words are powerful; and they give meaning to so many things. On a surface level, words are words. Yet reading a book, you realize that words are so much more. They create entire experiences and allow us to share things with other people. What we are feeling, what we are doing, what we want to do. Without our words, how would we share things with other people? How would we share things with ourselves?

Watching and viewing the machine as metaphor

Post by Katie Bergantine » 30 Oct 2019, 16:03

The learning will follow naturally

I would consider this to be more of an abstract class. However, if we can understand what it is you are asking of us, we can take a great deal away from it that we can apply outside in our careers. We can learn from each other based off our reading in the fishbowl, that is the core of our class.

Reading the other's text

Post by Katie Bergantine » 30 Oct 2019, 16:09

Whenever we read a good posting, it is a pathway to finding ourselves, by getting lost in the words and works of others

Before we had technology, we had books. We had literature of others, that would be the go to for some down time instead of our phones with such empty material. However, the fishbowl is a resource of knowledge that we add to daily; there is an abundance of words for us to dive into. When we find something that is relatable to us, it helps us to apply it to ourselves. Sometimes a good way to get found is to get lost, in a metaphorical sense.

Being in a state of becoming

The rhythm is in the heartbeat

A heartbeat is not structured like the machine metaphor. A heartbeat can be fast, or slow. A heartbeat is what carries us through life, and we listen to it for clues about ourselves. This is a very "follow your heart" type of sentence, an age old classic. So for Scott, the rhythm was not in the traditional way of dance, yet in the dance he felt in his heart.

It is our words that create meaning

Words are like paint, a medium to express yourself. Words give meaning to experiences and other things in every day life.

Creating and constructing knowledge content

Your text in the fishbowl is nascent and in a state of formation

We are always creating and designing. Although the fishbowl is slowly becoming more full, it is always being worked on, and always at a potential to be better.

Sharing the World: Reading your social meeting reflections

Post by Katie Bergantine » 17 Dec 2019, 17:42

"The world that we can share is always and still to be elaborated by us"

We all live in the same world yet hold so many different perspectives of us. If we were to all go to a concert, the same one, we would have different writings of our felt experiences. Of our interpretation of music, and how we live our daily lives. We can share what we experience with others because we are all so different.

Is there a life after the fishbowl?

If I had to use a metaphor, it would be similar to handling eggs when grocery shopping. We should inspect "the eggs” (our words) before we purchase them and then handle them cautiously when bagging them.

I believe that words are so powerful. Yet a lot of people will throw them around and say whatever without taking into consideration the value that they hold, the uplifting effect they can have, and what they mean. Choose your words wisely, and indeed handle them like eggs.
