Throughout my semester in BUS 345, I have learned a better understanding of characteristics of a successful global organization through unique, systems, decisions, and networking.

As I walked into this course, I had a feeling that this course was going to be the most unique to me throughout the semester. That was because I had no idea what to expect to learn in a course called Business in Society. It can vary! However, I learned that expressing my personal background through my felt experiences on the Fishbowl made me feel more comfortable telling stories about my life. By expressing these experiences with my group member, Matthew Waleyko, we were able to relate or express different experiences in which formed our friendship. For example, I remember when Matthew and I met to work on one of our 10+1 Steps. He was telling me about the first time he rode an elephant and how much it is worth doing it. I could never think of riding an elephant as an activity while I am on vacation, until now. It is important to have uniqueness in a successful global organization because it will form new ideas or information that one couldn’t think of before.

Systems. The Fishbowl system. Without this system, we would not be a class. Every organization needs a system in order to operate and store information about the company. Matthew told me one time that during his internship program this past summer, he worked with this system that had very confidential information about the government that he could not tell me about. But he told me that without that computer software system, no one would know what has happened or is happening in the government offices.

Decisions. Decisions are a huge part of excelling as a successful global organization because nothing would get done if no decisions are made to move forward. No organizations would survive even a week or day if no decisions are settled to improve the company. I remember writing about my executive position in my sorority and how many decisions I had to make in order to complete tasks and help others. These girls would not stop bothering me until they had an answer. However, it helped my organization stay on top of our missions and goals.

And finally, networking. Networking is major component in order to create value in an organization, society, and relationships. After this course, I learned that everyone networks in a different way. In this course, it was through the Fishbowl. People reading your posts/letters and my group member would comment in person about them. That is how a bond is created and we are creating more value in our Fishbowl. It allowed me to read other groups letters to see their input on certain letters that were sent out every week. It was a nice interactive course to be a part of because I feel that this experience would not happen in any other course that I have or will take at the University of Rhode Island. These friendships can possibly help an organization have a higher chance working with another company they always wanted to work with.

Unique, systems, decisions and networking are characteristics of successful global organizations. These are characteristics I am going to keep in the back of my head as I continue my journey after college. Reflect on things I can do in order to be a part of a successful global organization. I will also cherish all the information I have learned and the friendships I made along the way that made my college experience in itself a time to remember.
