REFLECTIONS ON LETTERS
Letter 32: “Facing each other”
This letter was a wake-up call and a source of motivation to increase my engagement in the Fishbowl. For a short while, I was overwhelmed (as I explained in my response to Letter 1) and did not contribute as regularly as I do now. We can’t change the past, but we can alter our course of action as we head into the future.
Letter 33: “Just live!”
1. Note the words that are evoked in you by the facial expressions (images):
- Suspicion
- Anxiety
- Frustration
2. Note the images that are evoked in you by the text:
- Suspicion: A cautious man observing from afar, squinted eyes and a cocked head
- Anxiety: A tapping foot, beads of sweat forming on the forehead, darting eyes
- Frustration: A furrowed brow, clenched jaw, clenched fists and huffing
3. Personal, lived and experienced examples:
- Suspicion: During my last exam a proctor watched over us suspiciously, pacing around the room to prevent any cheating.
- Anxiety: Recently my club hosted a networking event with students and recruiters from important firms and the students paced about anxiously, many of them sweating and nervously looking around the room.
- Frustration: Upon receiving our first exam grades in my tax class last month I saw many frustrated faces looking down at their papers as I glanced around the room.

Re: REFLECTIONS ON LETTERS
The paragraphs completed for “Workplace Friendship: A Social Reflexive Exercise” look great so far! I am so proud to be apart of something like this, it is exciting and has me intrigued.
Letter 34: “Recapping methodology of the fishbowl”
Through the methodology of the Fishbowl, I have observed a change in the way I respond to the letters. I think I am more precise and concise at this point, and I am much more mindful of my word choice. The power of words as symbols is something I am now aware of.
Letter 35: “Doing conversation”
Connecting a personal experience with a concept creates a bridge between oneself and the concept. The two merge and an understanding and a knowing are formed. When we share this connection with others, our individuality shines though.
Letter 36: “Science of networks”
Our group’s Fishbowl is a fragment of the story describing social networks. As each group contributes to their own Fishbowl, the fragments are pieced together to reveal more of the story. I never thought about our work in the Fishbowl as scientific, but it makes sense.
Letter 37: “What is your metaphor?”
Thank you for your encouraging words about my group’s paper on Integrated Networking Structures.
Finding one word, a metaphor, a perceptual category, to represent an entire felt experience (as in step 5) is challenging, but enlightening. One word, one symbol, can represent so many thoughts, ideas, emotions and experiences.

Letter 38: “Reader response theory”
When we disclose our perceptual categories upon reading the felt experiences, we engage in reader-response theory. We communicate our understanding, thoughts and emotions about the text written by the other person. We (the audience) attach meaning to the text through this process.
Letter 39: “Your Fishbowl is your YouTube channel”
Like on YouTube, we put ourselves on display in the Fishbowl. Subbans shares an inside look at his life on YouTube, as we are all sharing an inside look at ourselves in the Fishbowl. Each time we post in the Fishbowl, we put our knowledge into practice, as does Subbans with each post on YouTube.
Letter 40: “Self-driven agenda”
The Fishbowl is a learning organization, and I feel this to be true between the three of us in my group. Each time we write a paper, we meet in person to collaborate. We share ideas and learn from one another and accomplish more together than we could alone.

Letter 57: It was good to see you again
“How so?” - Professor Dugal
By asking ourselves this it allows us to go further. Go further with our words, ideas, lead ourselves into deep thinking by anadotes. “How so” we must ask ourselves. Here we are unique, I enjoy this and I love to see how my teammates use deep thinking to construct and create as I hope to do.
