CLASS NOTES

Post by lukemack10 » 01 Oct 2019, 15:07

10/1
10/1

IMPACT, INNOVATION AND ENGAGEMENT
Show that when speaking to others

Fishbowl is a living text
SELF-GENERATING, BIG DATA

Become an empowered participant rather than passive receiver

Literacy- a set of social practices

Digital media transforms the experience of time and space
Digital records have potential to oppose authoritarianism through grassroot activism

Social Reflexivity- me looking at you looking at me looking at you

Performative writing- when you write the performance happens at the same time

Our process is the product- shared without judgment

iated.org/inted

Work should be interesting, simple, fun and challenging

Learning is done through letters

We are looking for evidence for learning

Images are metaphors

ENHANCE- no such thing as good or bad work, Sanjiv only enhances work so that we can comment on it in a particular way

Absorb material using osmosis

We are working in a non-linear way

When asked if you have an idea, you are simply being asked “what is your word?”

Are problems are caused by words and solved by words

Take vocabulary seriously- they are your tools
Knowledge is created through a felt experience- without it, everything sounds like mumbo jumbo

10/22

We are developing a practice
Practicing a particular process

We are doing this because we want jobs that pay the highest amount

Social constructivism
Symbolic interactionism
Participant observation
Self and social reflexivity
Action research
First person autoethnography

This list of methodologies are what you are doing in the 10 steps/algorithm

Purpose is so that we can put it on resumes

This is where the action is

What we have done:

Social meeting exercise- not part of 10 steps but good practice

Aghast- shocked, dumbfounded

If you don’t get it, take the course again

Characteristics of a Global Organization:
Integrated Networking Structure

10 Steps and how they work
Integrated Networking Structure
Take words and find alternatives (create a word pool) and take the word further
Use the dictionary
Create value
Avoid hogwash
Individually restructuring the initial world pool in a way that resonates with you
A felt experience (a short paragraph), a memory
It’s about you
Your experience, your feeling
To describe something that happened with you, you must be in touch with your feelings, your images
Fit an anecdote (description, explanation) to the axium
Avidly
Looking at the words you are selecting /sorting out
Working together
Can not do it if you do not do step 1-4
Reducing work to one word
3 of you will have 9 words
Share your word
Creating dichotomies and selecting which one to go for
Creating a word pool for the two words
Sanjiv wants to see the thought process
Create a sentence as a group, a second felt experience
Realization/Insight
Come together to give perception
Individual paragraph
Give your own insight
Suggestions:
Pull out ⅔ words from text
Put them together to see how they relate
Define:
REALIZE
INSIGHT

We want to know how you are creating knowledge and how are you creating it?

Dynamic Decision-Making

Unique Innovative Capabilities

2 papers we are submitting by 21st November:

Social meeting
Integrated Networking Structures
Complex Adaptive Systems

Finish first two concepts by next week

We all live metaphoric and symbolic lives

Read letter, and write your interpretation

THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG

Do not repeat information

Important questions: how did you do it? why did you do it?

Understand words in a profound way: DEEP THINKING

We do not have a textbook; we are writing the textbook

If you are struggling with your own self-improvement, share it

There is nothing traditional about this course

There is a price on how you think; people want to know but they haven't shared it

10/29

Complex Adaptive Systems (10+1 steps)
Dynamic Decision Making
Unique Innovative Capabilities

We are using these to learn the characteristics of successful global businesses

"Word work is sublime because it is generative, it creates meaning that secures our difference, the human difference the way which we are like no other life. We die, that may be the meaning of our life. But our words, that is the measure of our lives."

SOCIAL SPACE
VISUAL REALITY

We create these in our fishbowls

COMPUTER MEDIATED COMMUNICATION

Our fishbowl is a CMC

Every fishbowl is a fragment

What is your way of seeing your world? what is the visuality of your network society?

Egalitarian- I can't function without you, you can't function without me

We are creating a learning organization
Business is about learning

What are we learning about ourselves?
Through our word choice
Position
How how to create value- to make money (lots of it)

We need to know how everyone is thinking

If it is causing you stress, you're wasting your time
Stop competing, work with yourself

Must be focused, must be curious

Curious- you are not satisfied, taking the word further
Always use felt experiences to empower your text

We are learning to create theory and live up to it.

Anectdotes

What is your shared experience??

By juxtaposing text we are creating visual realities, and most importantly, value.

POSSIBILITY/PERSPECTIVE- look up meanings

Stay close to text- way of escape negative feelings

11/5

Abstraction is Theory
Felt Experience is the practical application

They must flow together

If you do your team work right you will succeed

Raise the question “how so?” -that’s the deep thinking (google it)

Deconstructing- substituting words to improve your understanding

To move forward- destroying something and creating something new

Differed- meanings are always shifting
Our work is spontaneous- which we captured and configured

We did performative writing- Active learning- performative action (google them)

We started with an empty canvas (fishbowl), painted on it with our words- driven by freedom and individuality

Our papers are action-oriented

We are developing a FORM of writing, a style of writing

Every paper represents something different- It is SINGULAR

Abstract Expressionism

Championed by Picasso and Jackson Pollock

Papers are compositions with no direct focus

Making statements that embody and elicit emotions
A tangled mess of words bouncing around in every direction

We are writing directly from our own conscious and revealing hidden truths

The viewer is determining your message

Papers have layers of depth and it looks like chaos

YOUR PROCESS IS THE PRODUCT

ANECDOTAL THEORY- Google JANE GALLUP

11/19

We are creating KNOWLEDGE CONTENT

We are looking at engagement and expression

Need these two to create knowledge content

Engagement- selecting something outside and putting it inside so as to create value
Expression-The public display of symbols

These symbols are our dichotomies

ENACTMENT

We took action in the symbols we took

The fishbowl is performance- we use it to add value

Constructing knowledge= creating meaning

"We showed ourselves to ourselves"- goes back to 'you looking at me looking at you'

AGENT- an individual that acts with purpose

The felt experience must be returned to twice- abstraction is theory but revisiting again takes it further and adds meaning
