Re: Interactive Assignments- Craig
Before Notes: I am eager to meet my group members in person for the first time to see what there are like in person, compared to over text message. This meeting will help us to build a bond and connect on a personal level, which in return will help us function better together as a group. I know my group members names, but I do not know them by appearance so finding them could be challenging at first. I was happy that Raivon gave a clear description on where to meet, because this made finding my group a lot easier.
After: Once I got to the library, Raivon and Olivia were already there waiting for me. I arrived a couple of minutes late due to my class schedule, and I saw both of them waiting at a table in the library patiently for me to arrive. That is when we began to converse about each others lives and goals. I discovered that Olivia is a senior finance major who is from Quincy, Massachusetts. Like me, Olivia lives off campus and in Narragansett. She is graduating this spring as well. Olivia went on to tell us what her hobbies are, and they include gymnastics and spending quality time with her friends. She also began to explain that she is on the URI gymnastics team, which i personally thought was really cool. Raivon chimed in and told us that she too did gymnastics when she was younger. As we were discussing we found out that we all like going to the beach and that we had internships in the past. Olivia interned at her families electric company in her home town. I learned that Olivia prefers to work within a private firm, and wants to live in Boston upon graduation.
Later I learned that Raivon and I are both senior accounting majors aspiring to get out 150 credits to take the CPA exam. We both have to attend classes after graduation to meet this requirement. Raivon also commutes from Pawtucket to URI for class. I was able to connect with Raivon because she has 3 pet dogs, and I have had a total of 3 pet dogs. Raivon and I are also interested in the TV show Power that we had a very short discussion about because we didn't want to digress from the activity. Unlike me, Raivon knew right away that she wanted to come to URI for her undergrad. Raivon has had an internship with PWC these past 3 summers, and she focused mainly on state and local taxes. She enjoyed this field of accounting, and this makes her want to go into tax for her professional career. Raivon has 2 sisters and a brother in her family, and she plans on moving out of Rhode Island after graduation.

Step 2: Word Pool:
Raivon:
Form, coordinate, combined, chain, arrangement, construction, design, format, framework, complex, agreement, resources, social, blended, order, together, peace, produce, create, process
Craig:

Structure- arrangement, design, construction, formation, framework, organization
Step 3: Restructure:
Raivon:
Integrated: It is amazing to be UNIFIED with something or someone, I have PEACE and relaxation knowing I’m not alone.
Networking: The PROCESS of PRODUCING/ CREATING relationships and being a RESOURCE for other people.
Structure: The DESIGN and FOUNDATION you build is the first step in being successful.
Craig:
Mixed, Webbing, Assemblage
· You must be mixed in a group to reach your maximum potential
· Webbing is essential in society to help the society to function better
· Having a strong assemblage in a group will maximize the efficiency and output
Olivia:
Integrated- In order to be CONNECTED to each other in our groups, we must share our true thoughts and opinions.
Network- In the business world, ASSOCIATING with your peers and building a lasting relationship is essential.
Structure- An ORGANIZATION is most efficient with diversity and differences among each member.
Step 4: Felt Experience:
Raivon:
As I began to define integrated networking structures my mind immediately went to my siblings and our bond. I am the middle child of five, two brothers and two sisters. Throughout my childhood I went through many highs and lows that shaped me into the woman I am today. As I experienced life, I always had my siblings right by my side as a UNIFIED front. It is amazing because of course we fight and argue but at the end of the day our love is so strong for one another and there will never be a time where I feel alone. At the beginning of the year, my younger brother and mom moved to upstate New York. This decision made us all extremely sad and devastated because we had to PROCESS the idea of not being altogether like we always have been. However, through this, we were able to cherish every single second we had/ have with each other from that moment on. Once a month I try to go see my family and spend as much time as I can since they aren’t five minutes down the road or living in the same house as me. The FOUNDATION of each of our relationships was already built from the moment we knew how to speak and it was a loving, strong, beautiful connection that could never be broken. A lot of times when I’m with my sisters and brother people will compliment our bond and say it produces warming to their hearts. My heart is always filled my heart with joy when I’m with them because without them I don’t know where I’d be.
Craig:
When having to do my supply chain final project in class, I found that when my group is mixed with people that I do not know and are different than myself, I perform and work better. It makes me want to interact more with my new group members, and helps the group function better as a whole. This was due to the webbing process that connected me to each of my groupmates. We were all at the same university, taking the same class, and all had the same interest to do well in the course. This caused for our assemblage to be extremely sturdy and strong because even though we were mixed of different backgrounds and personalities, we were all interconnected to each other through our common society of URI.
Olivia:
I became involved with gymnastics when I was just five years old and it has been my greatest hobby ever since.Throughout the years, I have been involved with many different ORGANIZATIONS through traveling for competitions and fundraising for different events. I had the chance to become CONNECTED with all of the best friends and coaches I have met along the way. Being apart of a team has taught me how to ASSOCIATE with all different kinds of people and how to be a member of a team. Beyond the sport itself, gymnastics teaches you various life skills like self discipline, dedication, and teamwork.
Step 5: Interaction:
Raivon:
Myself: Strong
Craig: Whole
Olivia: Team
Craig:
Myself: connect
Raivon: family
Olivia: involved
Olivia:
Myself:dedication
Raivon: relationship
Craig: different
Step 6: Dichotomy
#1: Whole/ Different
Step 7: Word Pool (Individual)
Raivon: full, all, exclusive, integral, total, accomplished, fulfilled, associate, contrast, distant, distinctive, diverse, various
Craig:
Whole: Full, all, total, inclusive, uncut, indivisible, gross
Different: Variant, unalike, diverse, dissimilar
Olivia:
Whole: complete, entire, full, total, all, in one piece, entity, unbroken
Different:unique, unlike, dissimilar, distinct, diverse, miscellaneous, seperate
Step 8: Joint Restructure
A great group is diverse in character and background, but indivisible in terms of unity and togetherness.
Step 9: Felt Experience
Raivon:
Throughout my life I’ve always moved several times within a year span. This past year I’ve already moved three times. Everything was always changing for me so I had to adapt quickly and get used to the change over and over again. As I moved I had to go to different schools and make more friends so I would enjoy my time in school and not feel alone. I went to two different high schools because after my freshman year in Providence I moved to Pawtucket so that’s where I finished the last three years of my high school career. Through these experiences I learned about different people, environments and attitudes.
Craig:
Growing up I was always apart of baseball and basketball teams. We were made up of a diverse backgrounds, personalities, and nationalities. At first we only had the sports that we played in common, but over the years as we shared a bond on the playing field we became united as one. By the time we reached high school we were completely indivisible, and we knew that we could overcome any obstacle that got in our way. This led us to be extremely successful throughout our time playing together in high school.
Olivia:
Going out of state for college, I was extremely nervous and did not know what to expect. Although it was only a little over an hour away from my hometown, I was still very anxious that whole summer prior to move in. However, I was excited to branch out, experience something new, and get the opportunity to meet a DIVERSE group of people. By the second semester, I knew I made the right decision to come to URI. My friends and I were INDIVISIBLE and I knew we would be close for life.
Step 10: Interaction
Raivon:
Myself: Move
Craig: Sports
Olivia:change
Craig:
Myself: Bond
Raivon: adapt
Olivia:overcome
Olivia:
Myself:experience
Craig: decision
Raivon:close
Step 11: Insight and Realization
Raivon:
As you move through life you realize you need to expand your vocabulary and adapt to the language used within the environment you are apart of. The generations are also the explanation of using new and different words constantly as well as learning the meaning of the language used. A lot of times when I’m talking to my mom I’ll use words that are known the mine and younger generations and she’ll be confused and have to ask what it means. This helps people expand their own dictionary that they walk with and be able to express these words with the meaning they’ve possessed for them.
Craig:
Words are our main form of communication that we speak, read, and hear every single day. Words are the language in which we speak and express whatever we are trying to say. I have never really thought about the impact specific words but word choice is indeed very powerful. Words connect language, meaning, and people into a network that is open to interpretation. Every person has their own felt experiences with different words and different meanings. This is why it is imperative for one to learn and expand their vocabulary every day so they can find a proper balance that excels them in their professional and social field. This is extremely eye opening to me because now I understand the impact of my word choice, and the effect it can have on my viewers through speech or writing.
Olivia:
Prior to this assignment and more particularly this class, I never realized how much word choice and vocabulary mattered in my life. Every word I choose has a reason behind it, something I did not perceive before. Word pools have allowed me to expand my vocabulary and knowledge greatly, and that is something that is useful for the rest of my life. Felt experiences have given me the chance to really connect to different words, no matter how dissimilar they may be.

Step 4: Felt Experience:
Raivon:
As a child I was always extremely shy and it was complicated for me to communicate and make new friends until someone made an appoint to come up to me and make conversation. I never really discussed my feelings and let people inside my life because I never did it freely so it wasn’t a natural habit. Due to this it was hard to adjust and become accustomed to those around me. I also had to start networking when college started or I wouldn’t have any convenient connections.
Craig:
Last year I took a very challenging finance course that was extremely intricate and often times hard to understand. I studied for hours on end for the first exam but I did not do was well as I had hoped. I wanted to get a better grade by the time the next exam came around, so I realized that I must become flexible, and change my studying habits. I began to read the chapters before I went to class, and I became more engaged in the classroom. I found that by studying the blueprint of the course I was able to grasp more knowledge on the topics at hand. By the time the next exam came around I was able to get a far better grade, and it changed the rest of my outlook on the course as a whole.
Olivia:
The summer of my freshman year of highschool, I got the opportunity to travel to Italy with my whole family. I went there without knowing much about their culture and their different METHOD of doing some things. One thing I realized was how many places would often close during lunch time for a few hours, causing us to READJUST our schedule. Also, things like going out to dinner or asking for directions were often surprisingly CHALLENGING to us, since we did not speak much italian. However, I had a very positive experience and would love to go back in the future. This experience allowed me to try new things and gave me a new perspective on life.
Step 5: Interaction:
Raivon:
Myself: Connection

Olivia: Experience
Craig:
Myself: engaged
Raivon: adjust

Craig:

Habit: custom, manner, nature, obsession, routine, style, bias
Olivia:
Connection:link, relation, network, interconnection, attachment, association, bond, tie, affiliation
Habit: tendency, pattern, routine, manner, norm, way
Step 8: Joint Restructure
Associations with many cultures and environments will create routines and natures that become familiar to those around.
Step 9: Felt Experience

Habits are created through repetition because they become automatic and regular for that person to to do them. For example, by habit I open the door for others that are coming behind me because my mom always told me that was polite of me to do so. Also, the habit of studying and continuously going over material that will be on a test is something students get into in order to pass and do good within their classes. You can also make connections through these habits due to the fact that some people can relate to your habits and way of doing things.
Craig:
Growing up I would constantly try to keep myself in association with people that had similar goals as myself. I often found that I would spend the majority of my time with friends that were on my sports teams and kids who always put the extra effort in school. I subconsciously did this because these were the people that had similar routines and passion as myself. For teammates, we would always be together, and in return go about our day in the same or a very similar fashion. Whether it was waking up early to go to the gym, or going to practice, or studying late at night after a game, we had the same type of mentality about life at that time.
Olivia:
After graduation, I am keeping an open mind for what kind of job I am interested in. However, I would like to be ASSOCIATED with those with a common interest or goal. Although I am someone who enjoys having a routine during some parts of my day, I also like to be spontaneous at times and go with the flow. I would be interested working somewhere where things switch frequently and where no day is exactly the same.

All in all we go through many experiences that make us learn and know more about ourselves that we might’ve not known before. Through these new words we enhance our knowledge and get to express those words in many different ways so we know the word inside and out. We learn through images, words, creation, habits, people, environments, etc. With that being said words are crucial within our everyday life and without expanding our knowledge within it’ll become more difficult to grow as a person.
Craig:
Throughout your life you go through various situations, experiences, and events that shape the person you are today. The way that you process these situations and feel about them are your felt experiences, and they can affect the way you think, act, and process information. This class has taught me that you must be adaptive in your actions and choice of words in the real world. This can and will give you the key to shape your success. You should try your best to learn your audience so you can properly adapt your word choice to best connect with the person you are trying to communicate with. This will make you stand out compared to the competition, and in return put yourself in the power position in the conversation.
Olivia:
In order to be successful and to live life to the fullest, you must adapt to different situations and learn how to interact with all kinds of people. Without any change, it would be too easy and boring. Restructuring allows us to show our abilities of adjusting to that change. The experiences in our lives make us who we are today.

By the time the next exam came around I was able to get a far better grade, and it changed the rest of my outlook on the course as a whole.

The summer of my freshman year of highschool, I got the opportunity to travel to Italy with my whole family. Also, things like going out to dinner or asking for directions were often surprisingly CHALLENGING to us, since we did not speak much italian. However, I had a very positive experience and would love to go back in the future. Throughout my life there have been many influential people that have positively shaped my life. My parents and brothers have always been there for me to make sure I grew up to be a good person and was able to make the right decisions when the time comes. When I was a senior in high school I made my first choice that would shape the rest of my life and career. I chose to go to URI for their business school. I have no regrets about that decision I made, and I am now in the process of creating and evolving myself into a professional accountant.
Olivia:
As second semester approaches and my time at URI is coming to an end, my life is soon to be CHANGING. Soon, it will no longer consist of me living with my best friends and enjoying my four years at school. Although I will miss it, I must come to an AGREEMENT with myself to accept this change. Step 9: Felt Experience
Raivon:
As a middle child, I was always the one who had to be mature and know more than my siblings knew. I was the first child to go to a university and really learn about college before any of my other siblings did. Through this experience I play a significant role in their lives because they come to me for advice/ support when it comes to school and getting things done. I believe I possess this role because I went through it and can give them real life situations/ obstacles that I had to overcome myself.
Craig:
Growing up I was always more mature and knew more about the world when compared to my friends and classmates. I grew up with two older brothers that played a significant role in my development when I was a kid. When I was younger I got into more trouble because I was trying to prove myself to my older brothers, but once I got to high school I matured very quickly. I learned the significance and importance of responsibility and accountability in life.
Olivia:
With a sister three years older than I am, I considered myself to be pretty mature for my age. Throughout my childhood, the two of us had shared some friends who would think of me as one of their friends, and not just her little sister tagging along. I would always have her to keep me up with any trends and always tried to wear the same clothes as her. My sister has made a significant impact on my life and is someone I look up to to this day.

Step 11: Insight and Realization
Raivon:
All throughout life we will have to make decisions and analyze the situation before doing so. It is important that we do things the right way and don’t act on impulse. Our careers will force us to make decisions about taking on new projects, working with teams, choosing new clients, etc. Through the process of dynamic decision making we are able to express ourselves and provide support/ knowledge on why we want to choose the decisions we mention as well as our reasoning on doing so. Overall, this is significant information to obtain and know how to apply so that we can be more efficient at making decisions and expressing our thinking process.
Craig:
Dynamic decision making is an extremely valuable skill in today’s workplace. This is something that can set you apart from other employees or competitors while applying for a job. Being able to make dynamic decisions is something that leaders do on a daily basis. This is not an easy process at all, but in order to be a successful leader, boss, or role model you must be able to make tough decisions when the opportunity arises. This will raise your value to employers and colleagues, and make you stand out to everyone else in your circle. If there is one thing that I learned from this class, it is to know your worth and to observe/learn from others in your environment. These two simple things can create an everlasting impact on your life as you progress in your career.

Step 3: Restructure:
Raivon:
Private: Although it is extremely important to communicate, it is also important to be discreet and keep certain things private when you first meet someone due to the idea of not knowing them.
Original: One of my values is being true to yourself, original and doing what you love. Allowing yourself to be you and not try to be someone your not makes you unique and original.
Credentials: When you push yourself to reach specific goals/ outcomes you will be able to obtain certain credentials. As an accounting major I will be aiming to complete my CPA exams to receive those credentials.
Craig:
Exclusive: Many celebrity gatherings are considered to be exclusive because since they are famous and wealthy, they only associate themselves with other successful individuals.
Original: One way to make something stand out is to make it original. Having an original product in business will lead to success because no other company has anything that is similar.
Efficiency: Efficiency is extremely valuable in today’s society. This is due to the advance in technology because the quicker you get tasks done properly the better.

Different:You will encounter many different stages throughout your lifetime, with some being positive and others being negative.
Ingenious: Those who are ingenious tend to make the best teachers due to their clever and creative personalities.
Skills: Living away from home has allowed me to learn various life skills that I would not have gotten the chance to experience without it
Step 4: Felt Experience:
Raivon:
As an individual I’ve learned that you can’t trust everyone you bump into. There’s some people that you just say hi and bye too or catch up with for school assignments. However, there are others that you go to for support and to vent about life experiences/ situations that you may be involved in. I keep a lot of my personal life events private and speak to only those close to me or family related. Also, it was hard to learn that it’s okay to be different, it’s okay to be you, it’s okay to not want to be like everyone else. Be you unapologetically, being original is much more rewarding than trying to maneuver your life to how others will agree. Living your life and obtaining the credentials you wish to have is important as it will get you to the place you desire. Once you accomplish your goals, it is a wonderful feeling but when you do it while being original and doing it how you wish; it feels even better!
Craig:
When I used to work a sales job at a pool supplies company I was very efficient at my job. I would complete my tasks quickly and properly, and my manager would constantly commend me for my efforts. She made me feel as if I was exclusive because on busy days she would need me to work to help maintain order in the store. I was able to be so efficient because I had an original ways to complete my tasks. To make quicker sales I would keep popular products near the front of the store/closer to the register so people could see it right away and I can help customers with questions. I would also always keep the carts near all of the heavy items to help customers wheel their products to their vehicles.
Olivia:
I am forever thankful for the educational opportunities my hometown provided me with. I attended a technical high school which is DIFFERENT and allows you to experience different fields of study. I got the chance to try out different professions like fashion, culinary, and business. Through the business program, I acquired SKILLS in all of the Microsoft applications and was introduced to parts of accounting and marketingMy teacher was very INGENIOUS and someone who inspired me to choose business for my major.

Craig:

I was able to be so efficient because I had an original ways to complete my tasks. To make quicker sales I would keep popular products near the front of the store/closer to the register so people could see it right away and I can help customers with questions. I would also always keep the carts near all of the heavy items to help customers wheel their products to their vehicles.
