I am looking at you, looking at me, looking at you.
Put 15 mins into fishbowl
Nothing wrong with copying, just interpret as well.
Fishbowl Vocab:
• Sociality
• Individuation – gilbert simondon
• Reflection
• Reflexivity- Anthony Giddens
Everything he talks about is methodologies to learn
How do you see the world? What is the image in your mind?
We are all hubs of information and everything flows through us.
We are learning one word at a time. Then we are learning word structure and forming sentences. Share the images that our words revoke.
Read the letters 3 times. Deconstruct them so you can rewrite a complex sentence in your own words.
Derrida: deconstruction
Fishbowl
1. Taking and making notes
2. Vocabulary: developing concepts
3. Reading: deconstructing letters
4. Interactive assignments
5. Individual assignments
6. Google searches

BUS 345 Notes 2
• Maximizing return for money
2 Metaphors
• It’s like a gymnasium and you want to be exercising like everyone else
• When you enter the fishbowl you are entering the gym and exercising your mind
• Looking at yourself in the middle to see how your mind works
• 3 things upgrading. Eyes, self (mind), and words we are typing
• We are learning how to form a society in the fishbowl
• We are all helping each other
• We are learning to connect with each other. Connectivity is big.
• I am making a commitment to read every text of my group member
• Connection will happen in my head through the exchange of symbols (words)
• We lead symbolic lives. We lead textual lives. Lives of words. Nothing exists outside of words and a limited vocabulary is a limited life.
• Writing your words to add value to the group. Carefully selecting words.
• If you change the way you think, you change your life.
• Restructuring creates value
• We are doing fishbowl to create knowledge. Subdivisions assist with this.
o Knowledge is not something to figure out or find, it is created.
o It is creating life and sociality
• The interaction is always in the head so even when you are working alone your group members will see your work.
• Distraction means I’m not slowing down, focusing, or selecting or substituting my words. I am not creating value.
• Discipline, perseverance, Sustaining, Aghast, Nuance ****
• Remind yourself to create value for the 2 other people in your group.
• Our differences are realized in our mental structures
o These are realized in the differences in the words we selected
o We are trying to connect across these differences
o We are phenomenologists when we do this
• The key question to raise throughout the semester is ‘how so?’
• Social meeting exercise
o Pre-individual- notes before the meeting. How you’re feeling in regard to the meeting. Ethnographic notes
o Open ended, social meeting. Chatting about everything but fishbowl.
o After the meeting, writing about what happened from memory
o Looking at your notes and circling 6 words. Pairing the words in dichotomies. Words are not related to each other.
o Taking the meaning of these words further, going into the dictionary. Using each pair of words you create a simple sentence. Under each sentence you write a paragraph that describes the social meeting.
• Creating history as possibility. How So? Reflecting the symbols you create and share. Paulo Ferrera.
• You don’t want to copy someone else, you want to experience it. Look for difference.
