“I am looking at you, looking at me, looking at you”
The full version comes from the novel "Read Me" Leo Bendictus: "We look into each other´s eyes and suddenly I am looking at you, looking at me, looking at you looking at me looking at you". This was a significant way of symbolizing love in its deepest and truest form.
Quote Professor Sanjiv Dugal “ Keep your eyes open, do not blink”. Be in the moment, be aware of your surroundings and be curious.
We learn through symbolic interaction, which is a theory that develops from practical considerations and alludes to people's particular utilization of dialect to make images and normal implications, for deduction and correspondence with others based on the work of Charles Horton Cooley and George Herbert Mead.
We learn through sharing, imagination and experience, which together formed images of how we individually see the world. One must understand how people in society see the world in order to learn and function in a well balanced matter.
Outcomes from this class discussion:
1. We are learning one word at a time.
2. We are learning how to create word structure (sentences).
3. We are sharing the images that these words evoke.
As we do all of these things we become a society and "to form a society you have to share your felt experiences".
"You can have anything you want if you learn how to structure image and text in a matter that makes it impossible to say no to you".
Vocabulary:
Sociality: the instance of social intercourse or sociability, the tendency to associate in or form social groups. "This parceling of jobs is the defining feature of the most extreme form of social society, called eusociality or true sociality".
Individuation: Individuation is the process by which an individual becomes distinct. Individuation distinguishes you from everybody else. The word individual is a good clue to the meaning of individuation, which is how a being becomes an independent, separate entity.
Gilbert Simondon - French Philosopher: Gilbert Simondon was a French philosopher best known for his theory of individuation, a major source of inspiration for Gilles Deleuze and Bernard Stiegler.
Reflection -important: serious thought or consideration.
Flow (Image of things flowing, like water): to move with a continual change of place among the constituent particles
Text, words (linked to images): the original words and form of a written or printed work and an edited or emended copy of an original work.
Jarques Derrida → Deconstruction (this is the steps we will be following for deconstructing words/text): Originated by philosopher Jacques Derrida, deconstruction is an approach to understanding the relationship between text and meaning. Derrida's approach consisted of conducting readings of texts looking for things that run counter to the intended meaning or structural unity of a particular text.
Kaputt: utterly finished, defeated, or destroyed
Anthony Giddens → Social Reflexivity: Giddens introduces reflexivity and in information societies information gathering is considered as a routinised process for the greater protection of the nation. Information gathering is known as the concept of individuation. Individuality comes as a result of individuation as people are given more informed choices. The more information the government has about a person, the more entitlements are given to the citizens.
Practice and process: A method, procedure, process, or rule used in a particular field or profession; a set of these regarded as standard.
Thank you for the letters and looking forward to the semester!
