Letter: Looking at What We’re Looking At
Looking at the work I produce in the Fishbowl and going back to redo it is not something I’m used to. I don’t typically turn in work that I don’t feel completely confident in. With the Fishbowl, I found it strange at first to be restructuring, because when I think of “redoing” I think “wrong” because I don’t redo things unless they need to be redone, and the extra work typically brings a negative connotation to me. I like to associate redoing with something positive, like the desire to learn, instead of “because I’m wrong.” Redoing is not meant to be a punishment, it’s a part of the process.

Letter: Inter-Subjective Spaces
We create these inter-subjective spaces between each other by creating a visual for them with our text.

Letter: Facing Each Other
Awareness and unity as the principle of the Fishbowl are prevalent today. I think that dependence would also be an important aspect of it. A lot of people find being dependent negative. I think that the promotion of dependence in the Fishbowl leads to a lot of introspective thought on our own postings. IT creates that awareness by making us conscious of ourselves in this space. The unity comes from the ability to empower our own text, based off of the teachings from the text of those around you.

Letter: Recapping Methodology of the Fishbowl
Word selection is integral to the outcome of your messages in not only the Fishbowl, but anything that you write. It is important to understand what word you’re picking, the connotation of the word, how it fits with the others, etc. The Fishbowl is good practice for writing in the future, because certain words can make or break the meaning of your text.

Letter: Doing Conversation
The course is about making progress and actually learning. The Fishbowl gives students the freedom to be inquisitive and confident with their writing. It frees the student from the desire for a grade or from expectation and allows them to work at a pace that is comfortable for them. The one expectation while in the Fishbowl is to get along with the other people in the small group, you’re placed in. You’re dependent on learning from their writing and progress, because it helps you make headway in your own learning.

Letter: Science of Networks
Each time we put something into the Fishbowl, we are continuing to show our perspectives through our text. How we frame our opinions is telling of how we look at the world. Our specific Fishbowl experiences with our groups creates individual communities of experience and text. It gives us a better look at each other.

Letter: Reader Response Theory
The reader as an impact on the writing is a very pertinent part of writing. As the writer, you have to keep the reader in mind, for the fact that you are choosing how to be perceived. To evoke the emotion and create the impression that you want, you have to frame the story in a way that makes your conclusion the one that they draw from what they read. You have to carefully select the details you want to omit or emphasize, along with picking words that convey the magnitude of what you are expressing. It’s a little bit deceptive, but when you’re making a specific point, you don’t want to leave that room for open interpretation. Despite this, readers will still form their own opinions because of their preconceived perspectives, but as a writer, you are always trying to mitigate that room for error where your reader doesn’t connect with what you’re saying.

Letter: Simulating Complex Adaptive Systems
Complex adaptive systems are what gives your words life. It allows your text to change and expand as you continue to edit it. It allows for discovery to be incorporated into the message of the text through the word selection that is made.

Letter: Morning Thoughts – Developing a Voice
The voice you give to your work is important because it cannot be manufactured by anyone else or by a machine. The voice you give to your text is where the text derives value, because it gives it a perspective. Without the tone and perspective that only a person can give, the computer could easily paint the picture that you wish to.

Letter: Looking Forward to Reading
What we are doing in the Fishbowls is not only creating a society among ourselves, but also developing our voices and refining them. We are learning how to have a voice that entwines with our text in a way where what we write creates value. That creation of value is where we know that we’ve succeeded in developing our voice.

Letter: Simultaneous Reading and Writing
Our text is not only creating meaning and development for ourselves, but also for the reader as well. With our text the reader is able to create their own meaning and derive what they need from it.

Letter: Reflecting Mid-Way
The Fishbowl is not an explanation of your progress, it is a peek into how your mind works. It’s telling of your thought processes and exposes that. The symbols you select depend on your mind and your perspective.
