Letter: Assemblages
The society of the group in creating an assembly of words different from the rest of the groups is that we each take our freedom to do our own thing. We create and construct on our own and allow each other to take the time to look at what the other wrote. This is how we assemble with each other.

Letter: Creating and Constructing Knowledge Content
Using personal experience and selecting and weeding as a way to frame our social meeting exercise is a good way of constructing a personal experience as Brenda Laurel said. It allows us to make the social meeting our own, despite it being a shared experience. The lens through which each person a part of it looks at it will be different. This allows it to be truly personal.

Letter: Further Reflection on your Social Meeting Papers
For me, I know I definitely am a person who does before she thinks, and then I have a lot to reflect on afterwards. It’s true for me that thought arises from action, and I think that’s when I have my most insightful thoughts. When I do something, the way the world around me reacts is when I learn. I think that what I learn from my actions allows be to think at least a little bit more than usual before I act, but typically it leaves me in a position where I have a lesson from the reaction.

Letter: Is There a Life After the Fishbowl?
There were a lot of deep questions proposed in this letter, none of which I have an answer to. The idea of a life after Fishbowl is interesting though, because we are asked to frame the Fishbowl in our minds as a life of its own, so what happens when the course is over and the letters stop? For me, I think that the Fishbowl doesn’t necessarily “die” when we end the course. The impact it had on the way we thought and chose to write is something that has become ingrained in our style when we author something. While the Fishbowl itself loses the “life” we gave to it with our interaction, it’s not removed from our lives completely, as lessons from it will resurface in works for other classes.

Letter: Idealizations
“Life is a constant adjustment between the models we make and the realities we encounter.” This is probably my favorite part of the letters so far. It’s true that reality does not always match up to the standards we set for ourselves, others, and our lives. I like the acknowledgement of imperfection. I think that while our representations aren’t ideal, it is also important to note that they are important to us.

Letter: Society of Consumers
Ourselves becoming a commodity has been a pervasive idea for the entirety of my work life. Whether it be a resume, social media, or networking, people have had to turn themselves into something marketable. As a consumer turned commodity, you are asked to create reason for you to be a commodity. Making people see what sets you apart from the rest.

Letter: Living Mindfully in Cyber-Culture
Learning to be more mindful online is a tactic that helps us create value in the cyber communities that we are a part of. By choosing to make posts or interact with other posts that have meaning, we enrich the cyber culture we are in. We do better at creating this value when we interact each other and make in collaborative.

Letter: Thinking Process
On the idea of depict versus reveal in the context of these abstractions, I think the better phrase is “words reveal performance.” Using the word reveal over the word depict seems right to me because it implies a secret, or something unknown, where depict is factual. We don’t know a lot about the other person in the Fishbowl, so how can we make factual statements about them. We are learning new things about them with each post. As for action and performance, I think that action is more fitting. The performance is who they are in the Fishbowl, while the action is who they are creating it. Their performance is seen, hence there is no need to pair the word with reveal.

Letter: Pursuing International Conferences
Constructing what we are feeling, and using that for the conference is important because it is getting us to where we need to go for the abstract. It is building the theoretical constructs and showing how we do it, with our postings. I currently do not for see the outcome of this in an interconnected way. I feel as though each group is private to each other, and within that, sometimes private to themselves as the individual.

Letter: Friendship Again
I don’t know if all of these thoughts about friendship can be built off solely the social meeting exercise, although that may just be me speaking ignorant of the other group’s experience. I think the social meeting exercise was a good starting point for friendships within groups, but I think that the friendship (in my case) is developed over the time that the course runs. I think that the conversation of friendship from the Fishbowl is better discussed, after the meeting, and throughout the class.

Letter: Engagement and Construction
Looking at each other looking at each other is an interesting notion. It’s been said all through class, and in the moment, I feel as though I understand it, but seeing it written out it oddly becomes harder to grasp. Maybe that’s because it is now in the medium that the “looking” is. When I see it written out, I think it means that we are both reviewing each other and learning from the other. My content is the product of your content which is the product of my content.

Letter: Social Networks and New Forms of Sociality
I think that the learning done through the Fishbowl is a connecting thread between those using it. Ideas are strung along and advanced through each group, only to be done in the next group, and the next. While one group’s ideas may not be the most developed, they are still integral, as they have helped build the Fishbowl into something greater with each post.
