Class Notes 9/10
• “I’m looking at you, looking at me, looking at you”
• We’re creating a society within classmates
• Vocabulary and view of the world expands with fishbowl when you see other people’s posts
• What is your image of the world?
• Imagine, feelings, experiences, words of things flowing
o Learn to share
o We’re learning one word at a time, word structure
• Sharing images that our words evoke, as we do this we become a society
Definitions:
• Society- a group of people involved in persistent social interaction, or a large social grouping sharing the same geographical or territory, typically subject to the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations
• Sociality- the degree to which individuals in a population tend to associate in social groups and form cooperative societies
• Individuation- distinguish from others of the same kind; single out
o Gilbert Simondon- most basic argument is that an “individual” is never given in advance; it must be produced, it must coagulate, or come into being, in the course of an ongoing process.
Theres no “preformation”; DNA doesn’t already determine the nature of the individual who will be produced in the course of 9 months and years of growing after birth
• Activity- the state or quality of being active; use of energy or force
• Learning- The act or process of acquiring a knowledge or skill
• Reflection- A fixing of the thoughts on something; careful consideration

Class Notes 9/17
Exercise your mind
You are working with yourself
Operating your eyes, mind, and
Connectivity is big because of technology
Im making a commitment to read every text my team members write on fishbowl
Connection with other people will happen in my head
It happens through the exchange of symbols; words
We connect through words
If you have limited vocabulary, your world will be smaller
You are writing the words to add value to the group
To add value means that you are carefully selecting words
Selection and restructure creates value
Everytime you make divisions and subdivisions, you are creating knowledge
You are creating your own reality, sociality
Sustaining each other’s lives by selecting words and creating value to your group
Distraction means i’m not slowing down, focusing
I am here to create value with 2 other people
Our differences in our mental structure is the meaning of words we have selected
We are trying to connect across these differences
Always ask “how so?”
Creating history as possibility
Paulo Ferrara
Nuance- changing words
You don't want to copy someone else, you want to experience for yourself.
You are looking for difference
Social meeting exercise
Pre individual
Write your notes before the meeting; ethnographic notes
Meeting is open ending, chatting about everything
After meeting, write everything that happened from memory in conversation
The more detailed the notes, the better you will be
A word is a concept and a symbol
You are making 3 dichotomies ; 2 words are not adjectives, they have to be opposites. You are choosing from 6 words
You are taking the meaning of the words further from dictionary, You are creating a simple sentence from the words you chose
Under each sentence you are writing a paragraph; the sentence is an abstract
Exercise your mind

Operating your eyes, mind, and

Re: Class Notes
Class Notes 10/1
• We are constructing meaning for ourselves
• We’re deconstructing, taking each word particularly the hard ones, looking at the options in the dictionary to substitute and reframe the sentence
• Show how you innovate
o Open to different ideas and words
o Different substituted words
• Select a word from your text, and explain what it symbolizes
• Head is the mind and typing is the material
o Materiality of text
• What does it mean to be friends in the workplace?
o You create an intersubjective space
• Your selected words, symbols are making an impact to your group
• Eyes looking at eyes= subjective space
• We are learning nonlinear thinking
o Thinking about ways where your mind is working
• We are craftsmen of words
• Critical thinking means different perspectives
• Always sharing how you see it and your point of view, comes from the word and symbol you have selected
• In a knowledgeable economy, the exchange of information and ownership of your text is the key currency that makes you rich
• Your words change reality
• Learning through association= contemplation
• Always use the dictionary, it’s the way you enter the world

Re: Class Notes
Catch up to move on
Its not about numbers, we are learning to learn
Shift your attention, what is at stake
Creating knowledge
We are creating a social organization
Learning to create a better society
Self-reflection is what goes through your mind when you look at a word, image, symbol
Sharing will add value to your group, creating a sociality among yourselves
You are a part of a network
We need to start picking up the digital terms
Looking at diversity differently- looking at selection of symbols that we make
We are all unique, were all footnotes and we are at the center of the page which affects the group
Empower your text
Creating value through words
Enhancing each other, look at what the other person is doing
The journey is inwards, you’re learning to write a textbook
Learning to self-organize
Must always return to the cite- the work is never finished
Integrated networking structure
Forming a word pool- the wider the more creative
Realization and insight
10 steps are done individually

Re: Class Notes
• Reflexive leadership
• You develop free individual style
• Your papers are not philosophical, it is action oriented
• You are developing a form of writing
o You can take any form you want
• There are layers of depth in your paper and it looks like chaos, but it is the outcome of a deliberate process
• The process is what you are selling, the product
• You are selling the process
• Your paper has compositions all over the place and does not have clear points
• Composition-
• Making statements which embody emotions
• Active learning
• performative writing
• writing directly from your unconscious and revealing the truth
• you are letting the reader determine their own message
• you are sharing your technique and inviting the viewer to do the same
