The Fishbowl

It is interesting to think about the process (10+1) as the product.

“Action Learning is a process that involves a small group working on real problems, taking action, and learning as individuals, as a team, and as an organization. It helps organizations develop creative, flexible and successful strategies to pressing problems.”

This is an interesting dichotomy to describe the 10+1 exercises:

Confinement / Freedom

The complexity of information machines is mirrored in the 10+1 exercises. Like modern technologies, these exercises focus on text and images. Media is a dynamic force, constantly increasing its complexity, and we must be prepared to navigate this environment.

I have always thought of selfies in terms of photographs, not videos. This is an interesting take on the term. I look forward to working on my selfie.

In the Fishbowl we construct our reality through the production of technical images which result when we take the text further.

As has been said many times, in the Fishbowl we are “Eyes looking at Eyes.” We perform for one another and observe ourselves and one another. Through this method, we begin to understand the big picture.

“Vogue, or voguing, is a highly stylized, modern house dance originating in the late 1980s that evolved out of the Harlem ballroom scene of the 1960s. It gained mainstream exposure when it was featured in Madonna's song and video "Vogue", and when showcased in the 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning.”

Distance can be refreshing and can provide much needed clarity.

The interplay of the Fishbowl emerges when we observe one another in the Fishbowl and reflect on our observations. As we study the text and images we have shared, we form new associations. Through active participation in this process we gain an “experiential understanding of each other. Eyes looking...

Through the Fishbowl, the three of us connect symbiotically with each other in our society. We are building relationships with each other, and discovering the relationships between each of our symbols, images and experiences. We work off of one another, creating a symbiotic system.

“Focused on the horizon, that forever moves away.”

This is a great metaphor for goal-setting. We must always push ourselves further and search for new ideas. We are always looking for new meaning.
